Document services company Merrill is no relation to financial services giant Merrill Lynch, but the companies do share an interest in SEC paperwork. Merrill Corporation provides services the help clients gather, organize, and manage confidential and time-sensitive information for legal and financial transactions. In addition, the company provides marketing and communication services such as document composition, printing, fulfillment, and digital delivery, as well as technology integration. Subsidiary Merrill Brink International offers translation, localization, and globalization services. Merrill employees own about 47% of the firm, which operates more than 70 offices in the US and 20 abroad.
While the company continues to print individual annual reports, brochures, catalogs, and other publications, it has diversified beyond its traditional printing business through numerous acquisitions and strategic alliances to position itself as a business process outsourcing company. It sees growth opportunities in its legal solutions offerings, which include managing electronic data discovery, and in Merrill Datasite, which provides online hosting of documents related to mergers and acquisitions.
Merrill has also developed industry specific processes in order to reach targeted vertical markets. In 2010 it launched a Healthcare Solution designed to specifically address the complex communication requirements of healthcare companies. The offering adds to industry solutions that target the insurance, legal, and real estate markets. – less
