Sales Representative (Former Employee), Richmond, CA –
Pros: friendly and family oriented customer base
Cons: pay
This was my first real job in customer service. I learned how to use the cash register, set up sales displays and open new credit accounts. A great first job to have. No longer in business though.

An adequate work environment.
Visual Manager (Former Employee), San Francisco, CA –
On a typical day you would find me in my office checking the company website to see if there were any last minute updates from corporate.

There were a lot of times in which people delegated responsibilty to other people. Jobs routinely got passed around and left undone. It was annoying but I ltook the initiative of managing the inventory. No one else – more...  stepped up. It's ok, because I gained a hieghtened sense of responsibilty because of it.

In the end though, I was never really appreciated by the other managers. (who spent more time goofing off in the back than watching the sales floor) It taught me in important lesson though. I'm never going to sale myself short again. – less

I grow as a person and employee
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Redmond, WA –
Pros: room to grow, great health care, a lot of good people worked there
Cons: they closed
I loved working at Mervyn's. I started pert-time and ended as asst. manager, if they were still opened I would still be there. I was the givin the chance to grow in my job on a daily bases. The management team let me manage a few different departments and I got to open a store in Las Vegas and than moved up to Seattle area where I reformed the home – more...  department and made it a money maker. I stayed with the company until they closed thier doors December 2006. – less

learning experience
Sales Representative (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZ –
I worked at Mervyns as part-time since I was in school at the time. A typical day was stocking and cleaning up departments, as well as interacting with customers. The management at the was not the greatest, they didn't work with my school schedule. Some of the department managers were rude to employees and customers. The hardest part of the job was – more...  staying later then scheduled on school nights due to short staff. I enjoyed helping customers, learning and working in the different departments. – less

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Salem, OR –
Pros: great environment to work in, good management
Cons: hard to get full time hours
Mervyn's is now closed, but this was a great first job for me. The management was encouraging and pushed all employees to work harder than the day before. They had great systems in place that provided all the necessary training needed for each position.

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Escondido, CA –
Mervyn's is a friendly place to work in. You can say working here is like a big family. They care for you and help you when ever you need some assistance. Either handling clients demands or just keeping the store nice and tidey.

Loss Prevention/ Assests protection (Former Employee), South shore mall, Alameda, Ca –
Pros: daily interactions with customers.
Cons: our store closed.
I enjoyed working at Mervyn's. It may sound funny, however, if for no other reason the fact our store went out of business made us all closer. I believed going through something as life altering as losing a career and daily contact with people. Made me life long friends and stonger as an individual.
