Regional Carrier swallowed by Delta
Customer Service Agent (Former Employee), Shalimar, FL (VPS) –
Pros: work in aviation, flexible hours, different challenge every day
Cons: time constrained work, job stability can be lacking, most positions part time, few benefits
Mesaba Airlines continues to exist by providing airplanes and crews under the Delta Airlines logo, whereas previously it had been in the same relationship with Northwest Airlines. When Delta and Northwest merged, Mesaba moved under the Delta umbrella and had to compete for each station on a competitive bid basis. At the Fort Walton Beach Airport, like – more...  many other stations, Mesaba operations were taken over by parent Delta. In the current cutthroat competitive airline arena, workers can expect near minimum wage pay and to be working with new/inexperienced co-workers at all times. What used to be a satisfying career in customer service has become just another entry-level job. Travel perks that come with the job are not worth much if you don't make enough ($8/hr) to take a few days off and enjoy it. – less
