Methodist Hospital provides care for Houstonians. The not-for-profit organization, also known as Methodist Hospital System, owns and operates several Houston-area medical centers, including Methodist Hospital in Houston's Texas Medical Center complex and the suburban San Jacinto Methodist, Methodist Sugar Land, Methodist West Houston, and Methodist Willowbrook hospitals. The system's flagship Methodist Hospital has 950 beds and is known for innovations in urology and neurosurgery, among other specialties. The system also manages the Methodist Hospital Physician Organization.
The hospital system consists of five acute-care locations in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area. The network added its fifth hospital in late 2010 when it completed construction of a new 200 bed community hospital on Houston's west side, named Methodist West Houston Hospital.
Through its Methodist International unit, the system serves international patients and provides consulting services worldwide.
The Methodist Hospital System's five hospitals together have about 1,700 beds.
In addition, the health system operates the Methodist Hospital Research Institute, which conducts medical and clinical research. The research organization is based at the main Methodist Hospital location and works in partnership with the hospital's physicians to improve treatments for medical conditions. Construction of a new, larger 12-story building to house the Research Institute was completed and opened in 2010.
The hospital has educational and research affiliations with Cornell University's Weil Cornell Medical College, the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, University of Houston, Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine, and other organizations.
To widen its capacity for medical care, Methodist Hospital completed construction of a new 26-story Methodist Outpatient Center in mid-2010; the center is located near the flagship Methodist Hospital in Houston's Texas Medical Center complex.
The company also completed major expansion projects at its Sugar Land and Willowbrook hospitals in 2009 and 2010, more than doubling the capacity at both facilities. Other projects have included a new imaging and women's diagnostic center in the Houston's Upper Kirby neighborhood, which opened in 2009. – less
