METROHEALTH SYSTEM

MetroHealth prides itself as "resident friendly," creating a supportive environment that places education as a high priority. Work hours are reasonable and allow for both didactic and self-directed learning. A full array of supportive technology is available, including a well-equipped Hospital library with certified librarians, PM&R Department – more... libraries, conference rooms with a wide range of AV capability, and essentially universal intranet and internet web access (patient care units, outpatient clinic exam rooms, residents' office). Residents have ready access to Medscape/Medline, MD Consult, as well as EpicCare (an electronic medical record system). A sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among residents and faculty contributes to this enriched educational environment.

PM&R residents are encouraged to undertake progressively greater responsibility for patient care decision-making throughout their training program. The PM&R attending physicians serve as the physicians-of-record, and provide 24 by 7 supervision (and assistance as needed). Over the course of the residency increasing, independence is fostered in each resident so that at graduation the resident is prepared to successfully enter a practice setting of his or her choosing.

MetroHealth's training program features a broad exposure to many aspects of rehabilitation care. Many patients have concurrent complex disease processes that make their management all the more challenging. As the only Level I Trauma and Burn Center for adults in Northeast Ohio, acute care and rehabilitation of traumatically injured patients is a particular focus of the inpatient experience. The daily interaction with medical and surgical subspecialists at MetroHealth Medical Center provides multiple additional learning opportunities.

As an academic medical center, MetroHealth has residencies in nearly all medical and surgical specialties, serving as either the primary sponsoring or affiliated institution. The ongoing collaboration among training programs fosters a spirit of cooperation and teamwork among the various specialties and residents in training.

Finally, MetroHealth's training program appeals to and nurtures a sense of altruism regarding the roles of physicians. MetroHealth is committed to responding to community needs, improving the health status of our region, and managing health care costs. MetroHealth holds as a core value the provision of state of the art care to any resident of the Cuyahoga County, regardless of the ability to pay. This is a rather unique attribute at a time when health care costs are driving more and more individuals into the ranks of the uninsured, and institutions are being acquired by for-profit corporations, resulting in declining access to quality health care. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
