Very stressful and cut throat environment
Sr Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJune 19, 2017
Job paid well but the environment was very stressful and cutthroat. Would not recommend this company because of bad leadership. Many workers felt that their expertise was underrated and not recognized due to lack of integrity from leadership and bad culture.

Great Company to work for. The culture is in bedded and difficult to change. Company needs to re-evaluate some of the policies and procedures and bring them up to speed with the times.
Pros
Great Company Stability

Research Surveying is Alright
Research Surveyor (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJune 1, 2017
I am a research surveyor which means I survey Marta customers on the station platforms, trains, and buses about their experience and opinion of Marta following a script. The job is easy and relax because you don't deal with the same customers nor the same locations everyday. The only drawbacks I DO NOT like about this job is that it is contract (no benefits such as insurance and seniority), big gaps in between assignments and hours vary every week base on the need of surveys from the office of Research and Analysis. This job is mainly for a person who is retired or a college student looking for easy money. If you see this position listed, beware that you will not get 37 hours a week as it states on the application. GET a REAL JOB with benefits and stability because you will be mad at your checks and the department. This is a foot in the door job to get to a better position within Marta or use them for experience. YOU DO NOT want to get stuck in this position 2, 3 years down the road. The management of this department is alright because I barely interact with them due to me being in the field, but they seem to be good people. Marta overall is a laid back company and many people stay with this company for years until retirement. I do encountered some strange customers such as customers arguing, talking to themselves, and one woman had a bowel movement on the train I was on and she thought it funny. It was sickening. So far, Marta is a good company to work for and develop a career.
Pros
Free transit pass, select any shift, good co-workers
Cons
Long gaps between assignments, contract and no benefits, not guaranteed a 37 hour work schedule, working in the climate elements, rude customers

Marta the place to be?
Information System Analyst (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJune 1, 2017
Marta is one of the lowest paying transit authority in the nation. They put their contractors before their employees, which makes 3 time more money than the employees including overtime. It's so much politics that plays into you even trying to move into a promotional position. Even if you're qualified; there's a lot of favoritism.

Bus Inspector (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMay 24, 2017
Great job as far as coworkers and the job. However as far as management and politics, very unstable, depending on how the managers are feeling that day. If you can stay under the radar for 20 yrs. It wouldn't be a bad place to build a career.
Pros
Co worker, great support equipment
Cons
Management politics

Professional Bus Operator (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMay 22, 2017
Newly hired bus drivers were required to drive a different route each day (without a GPS system). We had to read typed directions while driving. And, we had to spend up to 2 1/2 hours getting to our designated bus. That time was not compensated.

It's ok to work here
Bus Operator (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMay 3, 2017
It can be stressful at times dealing with rude patrons and fighting traffic. Hard to maintain a break during an 11 hour work schedule. If you can handle patrons and provide excellent customer service skills at all times then give it a try.

The Office of Contracts, Procurement and Materials (CPM) has a deficient of competent managers who do not encourage professional growth.
Contracts Specialist III/Administrator I (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAApril 28, 2017
The Office of Contracts, Procurement and Material (CPM) at Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is a toxic management culture staffed with "home grown managers" who process limited skills. It is not a good work environment for professional growth and development.
Pros
Positions salaries are more than other like agencies in the metropolitian area.
Cons
CPM executives management style creates a toxic work environment, impedes professional growth, and demoralizes staff

Certified Rail Operator (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAApril 22, 2017
It is a very secured place to work, as long as you do your job and follow the rules, regulations and policies of the company. You will be able to make as much overtime as you want within the guide lines. Honesty is one of the key factors in keeping your job, especially if you made an error own up to it, and receive the ramifications that come along with whatever the guidelines of being reprimanded for it, other than that you really don't won't have any problems at this job if you just do your job.

Stressful place to work with no concern for your personal life
Bus Driver (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAApril 6, 2017
This is basically a stable with room for advancement but the day to day can be very stressful. Customers are generally rude and managers hold you at fault and accountable for everything. There are barely restroom breaks and lunch breaks are few and far between. from the time you arrive until the time you leave you are working hard, getting cursed out, and being reprimanded for the simplest of things all while being hungry and/ or needing to relieve yourself.
Pros
Great benefits, opportunity for advancement
Cons
little or no breaks, rude customers
