Operator (Former Employee) –  Morenci, AZDecember 12, 2016
A day at the job consists of building and operating crushers and ball mills. I learned how a crusher was built, then got the opportunity to operate it as well. Again if you apply yourself you can move up in the company. You get the opportunity to travel, and receive great benefits.

Structural Designer/Lead Structural 3D Modeler (Former Employee) –  Canonsburg, PAOctober 18, 2016
With all the different bulk material machines that metso can provide and all of the customer requirements, created a very challenging environment. Every job pushed you to think outside of the box. It is just a shame they are closing the Canonsburg office.
Pros
Challenging Work
Cons
Management stuck doing the processes for 30 years.

Customer Service / Aftermarket Services (Former Employee) –  York, PAAugust 17, 2016
Employees are properly focused on meeting the Customers needs. Management is overly focused on the welfare of the Corporation and the Stockholders. Too many unproductive midlevel managers in comparison to the number of employees doing the actual research, engineering, and sales work required to fulfill the current market demands.

Project Manager IV (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCMay 3, 2016
As a project manager my day usually began with a staff meeting or conference call to update project status of different departments. Metso's headquarters is a based in Finland and it was fun to meet and learn from the Finns.
Pros
Autonomy on managing projects
Cons
Some of the processes are dysfunctional

Production (Current Employee) –  Columbia locationMay 1, 2014
Metso is a good company, but management is very bad. Specifically in pumps department-this guy has been with the company for several years. It's unfortunate Metso allows him to lead in such an unprofessional manner. Very nasty with poor leadership skills.
Pros
Good benefits, low salary
Cons
Very poor management, poor training, long hours

Work Place Culture of Bullying
Management (Former Employee) –  Norcross, GAAugust 12, 2013
The company does not value employees. Leadership is allowed to bully employees without repercussions. Company values mean nothing they are just put in place because that is what a business is supposed to do.
Pay is good, benefits are good, performance is not recognized. If you are looking for a pay check and benefits only, you are in the right place. If you are looking for a career, work life balance and recognition for a job well done.....run!

Engineer (Former Employee) –  Biddeford, MEApril 9, 2013
A typical day would be spent in the office working on calculations to optimizing the process. Management was missing and the co-workers were not welcoming. On the other hand there was a small group of people who were interactive and enjoyable.

Would not recommend Columbia, SC division - dead end
multiple roles (Former Employee) –  Columbia, SCApril 4, 2013
I would not recommend working for this company locally. As a whole Metso has some great ideas and products they are well known for worldwide...however the local mining and construction team is made up of poor leaders. Training is non existent and meetings to inform team members of completing work and preparing them for success never happens. Everyone is on different versions of software and the IT department fails to keep up to speed. Many people are hired as temp workers to fill a need only to be released later. Metso of Columbia is stuck in their ways that have proved time and time to not meet the companies long-term goals or benefit their employees. There are few positives...the office is quiet and they have excellent 401k matching and profit sharing as well as health benefits. If you desire to work for them avoid the Columbia division but be prepared be part of a process that is extremely inefficient and no one willing to listen to anyone's ideas regardless of how beneficial. Lots of broken promises.
Pros
good 401k and benefits
Cons
poor leadership, bad management, extremely inefficient

The Best and Brightest
Director (Current Employee) –  NorcrossSeptember 26, 2012
If you want to be surrounded with incredibly talented, smart, hard working, dedicated employees Metso is the place for you. I have only been with Metso for a few years now, but I am impressed by the dedication of my fellow colleagues. And I am constantly amazed at the tenure of my co-workers. It's not unusual to talk to an employee who has been here 30-40 years!!!! Now that says something about Metso!!!!!!!
Pros
great mentors, terrific opportunities for advancement, global company who promotes international assignments
Cons
non-performers stick out like a sore thumb because eveyone else is so dedicated and hard working.

Very empowering place to work.....you can take on as much as you can handle to make things better. In general, managment is always willing to listen to sound ideas with substance.
Pros
great place to grow, 401k is solid, culture always improving
Cons
