Productive work place with many different cultures
Production Operator (Former Employee), Manassas, VASeptember 19, 2014
Pros: had a caferteria with great food.
Cons: clean suits were a bit unconfortable.
I start my day reporting to work on time. Changing into a clean suit with nothing showing but your eyes. Reporting to your designated work area and do your job in a clean enviroment. Attention to detail is the key to making computer chips. Management is always there if you need them. My co-workers were great everyone did their part in making production – more... on time. The hardest part of the job was waiting for a tool to come back on line after a mechanical failure. The most enjoyabl was socializing with co-workers after our shift was over. – less

OK place to work, management is the biggest problem
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Process Engineer (Current Employee), Manassas, VASeptember 4, 2014
Pros: vacation time, 401k matching, stock options, freedom
Cons: out of touch and ineffective management
The biggest issue with Micron is the management. It seems like very few managers know how to actually manage, and because of this a very bottom-up structure has developed. Do not expect any manager to be an expert in the field, they are simply there to make reports for those further up the food chain. Because of this structure, entirely ineffective – more... people can be employed there indefinitely, while someone who is well-qualified but does something upper management doesn't like will be fired.

If you end up with a good manager (i.e. one that leaves you alone), it can be a great place to work with a lot of freedom to pursue projects that interest you.

They do a 401k matching to 5%, and stock options – less

Good and bad
Intern (Current Employee), Boise, IDJune 22, 2014
Pros: low cost of living, good work life balance
Cons: corporate culture, not enough team work
The good: large company that is doing very well. Good place to be for job security.

The bad: Corporate culture. Too much time wasted doing trainings that have nothing to do with job function. There is a pack mentality. Different teams don't really work together but work within themselves. For a tech company, dress code is a bit strict. No shorts or – more... t-shirts. Other silicon valley companies don't have issues with things like that. – less

A fantastic working environment, so much to learn, and so many ways to grow
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee), Boise, IDJune 11, 2014
Pros: on site cafeteria, health center (gym, dr office).
Cons: long shifts.
The shift always starts with a "passdown" from the previous shift of issues, upcoming problems and efforts needed by the oncoming workers. Then there is emails and machine running statistics that need checked for trending problems. Pages notify of problems needing repaired as they occur, lists of machines that need preventative maintenance that week. – more... Possible engineering experiments that need monitored. The 12 hour shifts actually stay busy most of the shift.

There were classes for further learning on site. Training on new machines from SME (Subject Matter Experts) and new repair procedures that need reviewed and checked for accuracy.

Management is involved and on task. Typically they are approachable and willing to be friendly with employees.

Co-Workers are capable, and from various backgrounds making them interesting to work with over the course of long shifts for half a week. Training is ongoing and constant so there is rarely issues with incapable workers.

Getting used to the shifts are difficult, but once used to no different than other work days, and the benefit becomes long weekends and longer vacation weeks for minimum time off. But the shifts are hard as they cause schedule shifts at home for the employee.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people and the pay. Workers are interesting, capable and willing to work. The pay is competitive and attractive. – less

Internal Auditor (Former Employee), Boise, IDApril 1, 2014
Pros: good learning environment and management style
Cons: salary
The daily work as an internal audit depends on the projects assigned. Typically, meeting with management, self studies on specific topics related to the project assigned and data analysis are common part of the daily routine. Developing recommendations to management at the end of an audit project is the most important job functions.

I learned a lot – more... of the company's operations including the company's production process and supply chain. In addition, throughout the projects I also polished my communication skills in developing recommendations with my manager and co-workers. My co-workers and managers are very encouraging and accepting personal thoughts in each project. We all have one goal, which is to provide value-added recommendations for the company's benefit.

The hardest part of the job is to learn new concepts quickly as each project, especially the operation audits, is in different fields and requires specific knowledge. I enjoy the challenge aspects of learning new things each day and improve myself with the projects. – less
