Miller-Valentine is sweet on real estate. The company, operating as the Miller-Valentine Group, is active in such real estate areas as design, development, construction, brokerage, leasing, financing, and property management. The firm, which has four offices in Ohio and South Carolina, has developed more than 50 million sq. ft. of properties ranging from health care facilities and research centers to industrial processing plants and churches. Its MV Residential division develops multi-family residential properties and senior housing in the Midwest and Southeast. Miller-Valentine was founded in 1963 as a general contractor specializing in highway and bridge construction.
The company is steadily growing through acquisitions and joint ventures. It expanded its geographic reach and added to its retail development business in 2008 when it bought Cincinnati-based retail real estate developer Reliance Capital. A year before, Miller-Valentine received extra financial support when it teamed with Boston-based Cross Harbor Capital Partners to develop more than $450 million worth of luxury apartment complexes throughout the US. However, some of its projects were sidelined or scaled down in 2008 and 2009 as a result of a sour economy and sluggish housing market. – less
