Fun place, high interaction with people
Sales Clerk / Cashier / Gate Security Clerk (Former Employee), West Bend, WI – May 9, 2013
Pros: high interaction with customers, fun co-workers
Cons: not enough hours, low pay range
I worked here for a little over two years and it was my first job. I first started out as a gate security clerk then was promoted to a department in the store; housewares. I helped in the yard and in the store, doing whatever needed to be done and beyond. I loved seeing people all day and interacting with them.

Learn to deal with many different personalities with employees and customers
Point of Sale Supervisor (Former Employee), Antigo, WI – April 9, 2013
This was an enjoyable place to work. I learned how to appease customers and take charge of a stressful situation. There were many duties to take care of at once. For example making sure there was enough cashiers, bathrooms and front end was clean, lunch breaks were taken, customers happy, money counted and paperwork done.I also accomplished getting – more... along with co-workers and taking commands from the management. – less

Fun Customers
Customer Service (Former Employee), Appleton, WI – April 4, 2013
Not enough hours. Part-time and no room for advancement. Believe was hired for just seasonal but hadn't been told. Most enjoyable was when I got to know the customers and they would specifically ask for my help.

Productive and fun workplace environment with great benefits and job security.
Full Time Weekend Shift Materials Handler (Current Employee), Appleton, WI – March 4, 2013
The warehouse and distribution center includes 5 different departments which include receiving, detailing, storepack, shipping, and reserve. I work in the storepack department and a typical day consists of splitting merchandise into designated storage stalls with the assistance of a forklift. The job requires me to have safety awareness at all times, – more... getting on and off the forklift multiple times, and lifting merchandise that can weigh up to 100 lbs. Depending on what is needed to be accomplished for a specific day, I can be assigned to perform many other duties as well.

A course that I am currently taking is Auditing, and working at the warehouse has helped me tremendously in relating some of the material I am learning to a real life example of internal controls and operations that occur inside a warehouse setting.

Management is very friendly and makes an effort to develop a meaningful relationship with its employees while at the same time actively making sure that everyone is working effectively and efficiently.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the ability to get along well with my co-workers. Most of my co-workers live on farms and have been customers of Mills Fleet Farm for many years. There are also students who are going to college and pursuing their career goals. Much of management has been with the company for a long time, and is interested in maintaining a knowledgable cross-trained workforce, as well as a safe workplace environment.

The hardest part of the job is the physical toll that it can take on your body throughout the day. Because I work in storepack I have to get on and off the forklift, and lift heavy boxes of merchandise hundreds of times per day. However, I enjoy this part of the job because it provides me the opportunity to engage in physical activity and earning money at the same time. – less

Good Employees, Cranky Managers
Front End Operations Specialist (Current Employee), Blaine, MN – February 21, 2013
Pros: aflac is offered, easy to change departments and move up.
Cons: point based attendance system that never resets, limited scheduling to avoid overtime, poor insurance coverage (hardly anything is covered)
If you talk to any employee outside of the workplace, they want out. Very high turn over among full time staff for a retail store.

Terrible Management
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Blaine, MN – February 19, 2013
Some of the best co-workers I've ever worked with. Very enjoyable working with co-workers and customers. But management is a whole other story. Constantly being belittled and put down by management, treated like a non-equal. No matter how hard you work, it's never good enough. Raises are little to nothing. Being talked down to in front of customers. – more... Have even gotten feedback from customers about how they see us treated, they could'nt believe it.Parents of young part-timers have come in and threatened to get an attorney after them for the way their kids were talked to and treated by management. One mangager was even fired for it! I've worked many jobs in my life and always excelled, but not here. Would not recommend this place for anyone. Never worked anywhere where so many employee were just waiting for the economy to get better, so they could jump ship. – less

Cashier (Former Employee), Winona, MN – February 17, 2013
Cons: 30min lunch, punch in and out on all breaks, smells funny, if not busy send you home early
If you like the store and want to work there do. It was a great place to work while I was there. Gas mark was cold.

Strict environment with little communication and almost no relationship with managers
Cashier (Former Employee), 1001 Industrial Street – January 17, 2013
Pros: long breaks
Cons: horrible managers, low pay, strict rules
The managers here were the only thing that bothered me about the job. They constantly made me feel insecure and unimportant. Personally, I thought I was the best at my job there at the time and I was considered a veteran cashier. I always did my job perfectly and never complained. I was there before a LOT of new cashiers were hired, and even after 2 – more... years of service I was not promoted. Another cashier who was there for half the time I was had easily been promoted to a department. My "raises" every 6 months ended up being 10-15 cents. They shunned me for calling in sick when I was actually very ill, and gave almost every other job or promotion to ANYONE ELSE but me. Eventually I just quit because I couldn't stand going unnoticed for all the hard work I put into the job. – less

Non enjoyable.
Cashier/Clothing Clerk (Former Employee), Winona, MN – December 11, 2012
A typical day would be to stand at the register and cashier or to stock shelves, clean, and work with customers. I learned how to work with customers better. I was not fond of my management, they did not care about employees just cared about company, I enjoyed my coworkers, they were nice people. The hardest part of the job was sitting out in their – more... gas station when it was winter. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with my coworkers. – less

Horrible Management and employee treatment
Paint/Harware, Building, Plumbing/electrical (Former Employee), Owatonna Minnesota – November 6, 2012
Pros: great co-workers, friendly enviroment, feeling of helping
Cons: terrible management, stupid rules, horrible scheduling
I usually worked after school from about 3-9 and weekends I had 8 hour shifts. I worked there for 2 years and learned from my co-workers about alot of things. My co-workers were friendly and knowledgable through all their experience over the years. The managers in general were acceptable to say the least. They did not work together and were always disagreeing – more... with what the others would say. The hardest part would probably be trying to get time off or trying to get approval from managers because they are so concerned about 'policy' that they have no heart. But there were enjoyable things like helping people and having friendly co-workers – less

Excellent management team and co workers as well as customers
Cashier (Former Employee), Waupaca, Wi – October 27, 2012
Pros: worked well with scheduling and specific days off when needed.
Cons: the only con is at times communication with employee of changes done to procedures
I worked in various locations throughout the store to include, checking out customers in the gas station, garden center(seasonal), hardware department, stocking shelves, mixing custom paint.
I worked with a wonderful group of co-workers, all very helpful and professional. The hardest part of my job was having to climb 10ft ladders with lifting gallons – more... of paint, to hardware tools.
The most enjoyable was the customers. Almost all of the customers were friendly and regulars. – less

Fun working environment and co-workers!!
Department Head for Warehouse and Loading Dock (Former Employee), Hudson, WI – October 16, 2012
Pros: having holiday parties and just being able to joke with fellow employee, company paid health insurance.
Cons: operating forklifts on the snow and ice, but with safety in mind all went well.
This job had something different everyday. Anywhere from assisting customers with purchased merchandise in the warehouse or outside lot to loading or unloading semi-trailers to sweeping and mopping warehouse floors or whatever else called upon to do. I learned warehousing methods as well as keeping tight inventory checks on merchndise. Many of my co-workers – more... were longtime employees most 5 years to 25 yrs. Very loyal to their jobs and the customers. My favorite part of the job was the wide variety of daily tasks I needed to perform as Department Head for warehouse. I guess the toughest part was having to work outside during the winter months. – less

Working at a Gas Station
Gas Station Attendant (Current Employee), Blaine, MN – October 10, 2012
Pros: being part of a team
Cons: opening and closing back to back.
My daily job duties differ from opening and closing. It depends what I am scheduled. If I am schedule to open there are morning reports to enter, there is setting up lottery, cash registers, unlocking doors, lights on. When I close there are evening reports to enter, there are things to close and lock up. The hardest part of this job is working opening – more... shifts from 545-2 and then closing 2-10 back to back. The C-store is a store in it's self. We only have the managers come out once in the morning to do the morning drop and once in the evening to do the evening drop. Most enjoyable thing is to be part of a team, and interacting with others. My co-workers are awesome. – less

Front End Operations Specialist (Current Employee), Owatonna, MN – October 1, 2012
A typical day is filled with customer interaction. Everything from clerking to stocking, cleaning, processing returns. It also includes balancing the registers and safes. Working with loss prevention.
I have learned that I am a people person and I love working with and helping all different kinds of people.
The hardest part of my job is knowing that – more... sometimes I do have to say no, I tend to be a people pleaser. – less

Front End Operations Specialist (Former Employee), Oakdale, MN – September 14, 2012
Pros: we got christmas presents
Cons: short breaks
A typical day at work was busy, I was never not doing anything. I learned a ton about how to deal with customers, not to let them get to you when they are angry at you. The hardest part of the job was never getting down time, but thats a job. The most enjoyable part was working with some amazing people that I still keep in contact with.
