All I can say is, I love doing what I do. I want to be more social and with people from different cultures. I mostly participate in high ranking both military and civilians meetings. The more I be involved, the more I enjoy it. and that makes my day perfect.

This is a lucrative position and company that used to pay really well but unfortunately no longer does. Job is not for the light hearted and requires extreme sacrifice with respect to personal life. It does pay well though.

Typical day consists of translating ALOT, I learned to be more patient around people from different walks of life. The management was cool. The co-workers were great. The most enjoyable part of the job was talking to people from different tribes and working to help be the language barrier for the military.

Day to day employees are left to fend for themselves, meanwhile the benefits erode year to year. Very little vacation time.

I am working with Interrogators. I have to go twice in the booth
to help the interrogators when he or she questions the detainees. During the interrogation we are getting monitored. It is important to pay
attention and we are responsible for whatever is going on in the booth. We
have to give advice to the interrogators ,and understand the detainee’s – more... point of view.

Worked in Afghanistan for Mission Essential Personnel as a U.S. Army Contractor for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Translated Documents in Pashto and Dari into English.
Interpreted for the Department of Defense in Pashto and Dari into English and Bi-directional translation.

1 1/2 year experience.

I generally enjoyed working for the US Military through MEP - its management and compensation were very good.

However, they participated in racial discrimination against the Majority of the Afghan population (the Pashtoons)

I have had good experience with the staff and the employees
Over all good people and good management.

I worked with MEP. when they get to baltimore you will be treated good nice hotel and kind MEP staff. After you go to Indiana it is ok too after HAHA they will through you to the wolves in bagram you will be treated like slaves. War in afghanistan is not over translators are still getting hurt and killed. if you get hurt you get nothing from the MEP. – more... if you get sick they will send you home and you get nothing. The company will give health and dental insurance that you have to pay for but you can't use it in Afghanistan you are paying for nothing. when you are going home on leave you get nothing. If you need help from your site manager you will get none. Also 1 out of 10 safeassignment. You will be very lucky if you get that safeassignment.
Now with pay cuts you will be making a lot less for extremely DANGEROUS and HARSH work. Go with it if your life is worth less than $6500 a month. If you get hurt anytime MEP will send you home within 2 days after you get home your pay will stop. MEP will not talk about over 80 killed translators because they didn't do anything for their families. Let someone who loves you read this before you go with MEP. Goodluck – less

MEP started very small and in few years became a major player in the linguistics arena. The company is very skilled in finding recruits. Pay is very competitive. Management is great.

A typical day at work is always a learning experience. Every single day I learn something new about the systems we work with. My co-workers are all at least equally proficient in the job as myself, and we all work very well together. The job gratification never stops in this career field. Every day you go home knowing you made a difference.

It was quite an experience to work in a war zone (Afghanistan). It was hazardous at all times but learning and exciting too.

It was difficult to work in Afghanistan, but I enjoyed the experience.

The Training and Techcnical Services pillar is the smallest but best pillar of the company. Leadership expects the best and rewards those who succeed. Takes care of it's people!

Mission Essential Personnel (MEP) was a great enviornment to work in, because of the teamwork, everyones willingness and motivation to be there making a difference in the world of defense contracting. A day at MEP was very fast paced and demanding. One must have been a great multitasker and work extremely well under pressure and deadlines.
