A voice. An advocate. A supporter. Mississippi Children’s Home Services provides children with safe, loving and permanent homes. That has been the organization’s mission since its formation in 1912. Although the agency has changed and grown in many ways in our 100+ years of service, we remain passionate about finding permanent homes for children and keeping the family unit together. We have served more than 600,000 children and families and continue to find new ways to do so.
Our butterfly icon is more than just a graphic on a logo for MCHS. The butterfly embodies all of the challenges that our children have bravely confronted, these experiences of struggle culminate with the empowerment for them to spread their wings and fly. MCHS offers a temporary, safe cocoon for these hurting children as they develop mentally and physically and learn to live happy and healthy lives.
For more than a century, Mississippi Children’s Home Services has made a transformational difference in the lives of Mississippi’s children. Founded on the belief that the best place for a child is in a permanent, loving home, our early efforts were devoted to finding families for children. Today, we continue this tradition of transformation through programs that serve the ever-evolving needs of Mississippi’s children by honoring our core values:
• The voice of our children and families always comes first
• Relationships matter
• We take great joy in service to others
• Our families and our communities deserve our very best
Our statewide services include a comprehensive array of programs from our Community-Based, Campus-Based, and Educational service divisions. At Mississippi Children’s Home Services our mission is to improve the lives of children and families by providing a continuum of compassionate, measureable and effective behavioral health and social services. Our vision is a Mississippi in which children are nurtured in healthy families and communities. With an organization as large and far-reaching as Mississippi Children’s Home Services, our Core Values permeate everything we do. From staff recruitment to our program initiatives, these values guide us as we devise compassionate solutions for the emotional and physical issues faced by our children. MCHS employs a diverse group of committed employees throughout the state who are guided and inspired by our Core Values.
Our rich history began with a desire to provide orphaned children with a place to live and grow until a permanent home could be found for them. Throughout our history, our services have expanded to include in-home care, residential programs, and a variety of educational services. One of the oldest and largest nonprofit organizations of its kind in Mississippi, MCHS is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, representing a commitment to continuously maintain the highest healthcare, safety and quality goals for youth in our care. – less
