We are pleased to present a brief outline of our company's history.
In 1975, Mitsui and Company, the largest trading corporation in Japan and one of the largest corporations in the world, established TCM America to market the high quality line of TCM forklifts in the Eastern and Midwestern United States.
TCM America's lift trucks become widely recognized for their superior quality, and the company thrived over the next fifteen years to became a major supplier of material handling equipment. While gaining significant market share, TCM forklifts became commonplace in companies such as Kelloggs, General Motors, Pepsi Cola and many other major U.S. corporations.
TCM America later added TCM articulated wheel loaders. These excellent machines added another dimension to the material handling product line, and began moving the company into a more diversified product line.
1990 was a year of major accomplishments. TCM America merged with another Mitsui business unit to form Mitsui Machinery Distribution, Inc. MMD began to market larger equipment such as excavators, and this further solidified its direction of moving into the construction equipment field.
MMD began to offer finance products to our customers at this time. We saw the need of many of our customers for alternative financing of equipment, and MMD began offering it through the company. This allowed our customers to avoid depleting their traditional credit lines, and allowed us to construct financing plans more tailored to the rental business. We continue to offer flexible finance options to this day to enhance our customers' success.
In late 1990, the company became the exclusive U.S. supplier for Airman portable air compressors manufactured in Japan by Hokuetsu. Through Hokuetsu's drive for continuous product improvement, MMD's product support, and our customers' excellent experiences with the equipment in the field, Airman has become recognized industry wide for its legendary reliability and quality. Today, MMD Equipment is the world's leading distributor of Airman portable air compressors.
In 1998 and 1999, MMD continued to build on the success of Airman by adding more construction products, including compact excavators and towable generators. MMD correctly anticipated the outstanding growth opportunities for this compact construction equipment in the rental industry.
In 2001, MMD purchased the assets of Nagata America Corporation, a distributor of light construction products. These products are also of excellent quality, and have added dewatering equipment, portable generators and compaction equipment to MMD Equipment's lineup.
In 2002, MMD became the exclusive supplier to the North American rental industry for Yanmar excavators. Yanmar's quality has propelled it into a top-three worldwide supplier position.
In 2002, Mitsui Machinery Distribution, Inc. branded itself as MMD Equipment. This new corporate identity covers all product offerings of the company, and anticipates future growth into business areas that will serve our customers' needs as they become apparent.
Since 2002, MMD has continued to upgrade, improve, and expand its product offerings. For example, our new PowerPro towable generator line is the current quality and feature leader in the marketplace. These improvements resulted from listening to our customers and to the needs of the marketplace.
