Horrible Manager!
Financial Advisor Associate (Former Employee) –  Long Beach, CAApril 21, 2017
Manager promised things that you were never given. Never given a lunch break or regular break, but had to mark it on timesheet. No place to take a lunch or break. Always had to be at the desk. Were not allowed to talk to your co-workers

Competitive Firm, Wonderful Work Culture
Vice President (Current Employee) –  Manhattan, NYApril 19, 2017
Morgan Stanley is a great firm to work for. As with any other competitive corporation, its positive culture often drives the behavior of its employees. In my experience, management have always been respectful, professional and helpful in guiding individuals to advance their careers and skills. Most, if not all of management, have an open door policy for suggestions, questions, concerns and advice The firm prides itself on embracing diversity across gender, ethnicity and the variations of orientation.

Its Financial Advisors are some of the top in the industry for retail, institutional and private wealth. Financial Advisors are generally very receptive to embracing change with Technology and Policy.

Colleagues have always behaved professionally and friendly. The after-work culture does exist but it has always been professional and friendly.

Compensation is always a tricky subject and should be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
Employees sometimes laugh of a "Morgan Stanley Tax" which humorously implies that if you are a present employee, compensation advances are a bit slower versus incoming employees.

Financial Advisors may have a different perspective on firm 'moving the cheese' occasionally. However, this belief is with any organization.

Every career has its challenges - success does not show up on doorsteps at all, let alone without diligence and effort. There is a very reasonable work-home balance. Maternity and Paternity leave are available, plenty of vacation time which grows over time based on time with the firm (6 weeks?).
more... The AWL (Alternative Work Location) policy is very, very flexible (based on the division/group) but working from home provides the same capabilities as working in the office albeit your workstation in the office may be faster.

The firm has plenty of perks from museums, discounted tickets, free passes for events in the city, discounts for computers, mortgages and new car purchases.

Overall, Morgan Stanley is a great company to work for. Management invests in its employees and its programs to position itself as a leader for tomorrow's growing market.

Pricing Renovation Data Base(PRDB)
Senior Test Analyst (Current Employee) –  New York, NYApril 18, 2017
PRDB is the Pricing Renovation Data Base, It a System which collects end-of-day batch files from vendors, normalized them and uses a rules engine to select a "chosen price" from among those vendors based on a source hierarchy.
PRDB provided enterprise rule based data to the mainframe for updating the Product Pricing File (PPF), it also provides client specific rule based data from fund firm clients

A great Company to work for with excellent Compensation.
Mainframe Computer Analyst (Former Employee) –  Brooklyn, NYApril 17, 2017
Very strong company. My only dislike is the out-sourcing of jobs, though I do understand that it is business. Employees are very well compensated. Security is tight being that you are dealing with securities. Management is very approachable and personable. Assistance is always available when needed. Company culture consist of giving back in the form of Charities and volunteering in certain community events. Mandatory classes are giving yearly to keep one abreast of Company Policies, Exchange Policies, etc.
Pros
Compensation.

Not a good place to work. Management is to hands off. The way I work is not respected. I work on a team and really don't like any of the members. Glad to leave.

Assist clients (Former Employee) –  South Jordan, UTApril 13, 2017
An okay company to work for, but really depended on which team you wee able to get on. It was very hark to move from team to team if you weren't part of a particular family, or part of the operations managers group of friends

Financial Advisor sales force within MS (Former Employee) –  FloridaApril 13, 2017
Strong culture, many people were helpful. The employees tried very hard to put the client's needs first. A great place to be prior to becoming MSSB. It seems to be back on track after a few hiccups.

Huge Political Environment that still offers great opportunities to the right person
Executive Director (Former Employee) –  NY and LondonApril 11, 2017
Once a very forward thinking relatively small department it has become generally a large bureaucracy
There are pockets of development groups that are excellent but hard to find them
The culture has gone from 'hard charging' and team oriented to political and cut throat
Pros
Wide range of positions and potential to advance
Cons
Very large, hard to be noticed, can be limited in range of things you are exposed to

Financial Advisor (Former Employee) –  Westport, CTApril 10, 2017
Company trains you then drops you, makes no sense. It is a Ponzi scheme to build their book of business, then let you go after not meeting near impossible hurdles.
Pros
convenient
Cons
no oversight
