Job Description

Title: Controller
Reports To: CEO

Summary
The Controller is a key member of the team, managing all accounting functions and a range of administrative functions. The Controller reports to the CEO, and has a close working relationship with the company’s Consulting CFO. Primary responsibilities include maintaining accurate accounting records, participating actively in budgeting and planning, and administering human resources programs such as payroll and benefits. As a one-person shop, the Controller must be able to function efficiently at both the hands-on and management levels. “Hands-on” in our company includes pitching in with running errands as-needed, and handling daily mail pick-up and drop-off duties.

Responsibilities:

  • General ledger and all bookkeeping activities
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Payroll, using an outside payroll service
  • HR Administration, including benefits, record-keeping and reporting
  • Purchasing, as assigned by management
  • Monthly closing of the books
  • Monthly financial statements, including budget to actual analysis
  • Bank reports
  • Transporting packages to the post office and picking up the company mail
  • Do weekly bank run
  • Manage annual accounting reviews, including organized preparation and timely response to outside accountants
  • Organize and maintain all contract files
  • Keep all corporate records
  • Budget and cash flow projections
  • Computing and IT tasks, with support of the company’s IT Manager
  • Participate in new system implementation, including time accounting, job costing and CRM

Qualifications

  • B.S. in accounting or business administration; or equivalent work experience and at least five years of relevant experience. Preference will be given to candidates with manufacturing experience.
  • Proficiency with accounting system software
  • Deep understanding of balance sheets and general ledger entries
  • Excellent Excel skills Experience maintaining computing systems
  • Systems oriented, organized, timely and accurate
  • Able to independently identify and handle priorities
  • Clear, business-like phone presence – all team members share phone duties
  • Very flexible and able to juggle and prioritize competing tasks in a dynamic and rapid-growth environment
  • Adaptable to new systems and able to participate in implementation
  • Ability to clearly and efficiently communicate in-person and via e-mail with internal and external customers
  • Cost accounting knowledge strongly preferred

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to walk to meet with other employees throughout the facility, including the shop floor, which includes tight spaces
  • Carrying packages to a vehicle and transporting to the post office
  • Able to climb stairs in order to access inventory and servers on the second floor
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds several times a day

Travel and Other Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Use of a reliable car for regular duties and errands that require driving, such as mail pickup/drop off, banking, etc.
