About MPD, Inc
MPD Components, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer: Starting from raw materials, we make our own ceramic powder and parts. We metallize our own ceramics. We have a machine shop and tool and die shop, complete with EDM capability. We change strip and bar stock into parts for our various product lines. We take those metal and ceramic parts and – more... make various VEDs such as planar triodes, magnetrons and spark gaps. We make MCMs using planar triode VEDs and Solid State components. We are experienced at making titanium-nickel eutectic ceramic to metal seals.
The MPD facilities in Owensboro, Kentucky, have more than 437,000 square feet of lab, factory, office and storage space. MPD Components, Inc. is a subsidiary of MPD, Inc. Our history goes back to when we were the Microwave Products Department of General Electric. MPD, Inc. is an employee owned (ESOP) company. MPD's Other subsidiaries are CMI, Lion Laboratories, and MPH Industries which design and manufacture breath alcohol measurement equipment and police & speed radar equipment.
MPD, Inc.'s roots go back to the days of the Burlews and Ken-Rad or Kentucky Radio. Around World War II, General Electric purchased Ken-Rad and operated it until January 1987. During this time, this facility was part of G.E.'s Microwave Products Department (MPD). In the 1960s, G.E.'s MPD employment in this area reached 6,000 people. In 1987, G.E. sold the business to a group of private investors and MPD, Inc. was formed. MPD Components, Inc. is the portion of MPD, Inc. that was MPD's business in 1987. In 1997, Gary Braswell, President, and his staff, arranged for MPD, Inc. to become an ESOP. As an ESOP, we have continued to prosper.
