About Muzak

Mood Media Corporation is an in-store media company that combines music, visual elements, and scent to get customers in the mood to spend. The company's 850 retail clients span nearly half a million locations in about 40 countries worldwide. Its In-Store Media division handles the music/video/scent combo to drive sales while the Retail Point of Sales – more... (POS) division sells music CDs and video games through about 28,000 interactive display kiosks. The company also owns DMX and piped-in music specialist Muzak, which also offers marketing for telephone on-hold systems. Formed in 2006, Mood Media took its current name in 2010.

Mood Media paid $345 million in 2011 to acquire the company once known for its elevator music. Muzak now offers original music, complete with lyrics, and brings along its proprietary sound system already present in about 470,000 stores, restaurants, bars, offices, factories, and hotels. Before the acquisition, it had emerged from bankruptcy in 2010 with a reduced debt and a strong balance sheet.

In early 2012, the company completed its $86.1 acquisition of DMX. The transaction increased Mood Media's US presence considerably. – less
