NASCAR Hall of Fame

NASCAR is no longer a business of running moonshine during the week and racing the delivery cars on weekend. It's big business NASCAR fans, and many teams are feeling the pinch.

Jack Roush's move to bring Boston Red Sox owner John Henry into the picture and to rename the team Roush Fenway Racing was a decision that had to be made in order to keep
 – more... the team competitive. After all, Richard Childress made more money available to his team by seeking help from an investment group. It's the way of the future whether we like it or not.

Now Richard Petty is looking to major league sports to provide Petty Enterprises with some much needed help. Petty recently attended a Montreal Canadians hockey game at the invitation of George Gillette Jr, the hockey team's owner. I think at this point, Petty will pay attenion to anyone willing to put an offer on the table. Richard stated, "I'm open to anything, including giving up majority ownership."

Having been a NASCAR fan for many years, I have mixed emotions about all of this. With NASCAR racing's increasing costs, I am aware that most teams need to do something different to remain competitive. However, the Petty's giving up the majority of their business by franchising (or whatever you want to call it) is hard for an old NASCAR fan to swallow. Common sense and my love of the sport tells me to 'keep them racing' and if these moves are necessary, so be it. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
