Loved the people, not the company.
Return Agent/Booth Agent (Current Employee), Kansas City, MO. KCI LocationMarch 21, 2014
Pros: good pay, possibility for bonus, challenging, fast paced
Cons: high management turnover rate, no advancement opportunities.
There are so many wonderful things about National/Alamo. We all had a good time working and we made it a fun place to be. But there is no room for advancement in the company. Even if you had dedicated 10+ years there you would only be eligible to advance if you have a degree. And even then, you would have to be selected for the management program against – more... hundreds of other in-house and non in-house applicants. In the two years I've been there we've been through about 3 different branch managers because of the dissatisfaction with the position. Instead of promoting from within, they hire someone from outside who doesn't have alot of experience with the job. But I love my coworkers like family and I enjoy going to work. The employees who've stuck it out are a very close bunch. – less

Fun place to work
Returns Agent (Current Employee), Denver, COFebruary 18, 2014
Pros: great employees- busy days hot chocolate on cold day
Cons: winter time its very cold to be outside for 8 hours
A typical day at work consists of helping hundreds of customers. on your feet a majority of the day and just being able to interact all day long. Its a great place to work. You wave the cars in and go through the script of making sure everything worked out perfectly

Interesting place to work.
Manager (Former Employee), San Francisco, CAFebruary 13, 2014
Pros: interesting, fun work.
Cons: some customer waits during tourist season.
A typical day involved opening the office and preparing day for customer transactions, preparing legal contracts for rentals, office support, and closing office. Later, played a management role and made sales calls on local hotel staff, interviewed, hired, trained, and scheduled up to 10 employees.

The coworkers were fun to be around.

The hardest – more... part of the job was customer waits during the busy season.

The most enjoyable part of the job was job security. – less

Steady pace workplace filled with moving cars
Car Return Agent (Current Employee), St. Louis, MOJanuary 14, 2014
Pros: benefits
Cons: harsh weather, work/life balancing, shift biddings
Each work day is typically greeting customers as they approach and return their rentals in a fast and productive manner. Once cars are returned one of the biggest duties of my position is making sure body damage is documented when needed, which involves much decision making. 90 percent of my responsibility takes place out doors and involves a lot of – more... walking.
I've learned how to properly deal with customers and satisfy their needs which benefits the company, and also making decisions and being observant with customers.
Management is heavily involved but not so much in my area of returns because our responsibilities are self-paced. No one has to monitor our performance after tasks has been given.
Co-workers, I get along with well, I enjoy working at my own pace and at the same time working as team and benefiting one another. There's usually times of the day where we may have a few minutes to spare to socialize with one another which is important because we're willing to learn work strategies from one another which benefits the company.
There isn't anything hard about this job, especially not in my area besides working in brutally cold temperatures.
What I enjoy most about this job is the different customers I come across and my co-workers. – less

Get in to work clock in. Get my computer sign-in and go to my post. I would stand and wait on cars to come in and return them with my computer.

Job with no room for Advancement
CUSTOMER SERVICE (Current Employee), LAXNovember 23, 2013
Cons: hours that we get is strange.no coverage
I been working here for a couple on months. (LAX) Management dont care about their employees. There is little communication between departments. Its hard to get a break sometimes. I just come to work to do my job. I clock in and clock out. This is a place to work until you get a real job. Also alamo pay per hour is hopeless. All the money come from – more... commission. This is first and last time working at a Car Rental. – less

Pros: learning how to go different places within the tri-state area.
Cons: no being able to go home at a reasonable time
A typical day at work was long and stressful.
I learned how to manuever in and out of New York and surrounding parts.
The management was good to you as long as you were willing to drive the cars no matter how you felt.
My co-workers were diversed.
The hardest part of the job was driving long distance after drivng for 12 hours and its dark and youre – more... tired.
The most enjoyable part waas learning to go to different places in and out of the tri state area. – less

Pros: great advancement
Cons: some of the management team would be unfair
the customers that I was able to help out and some of the people that I would get to talk to from all over the world. the respect that I would receive from the employees under me due to treating them with respect first and fairlly
