Not a bad place to be
Project Staff, Property & Casualty Claims (Current Employee), Columbus, OH – May 13, 2013
Pros: benefits, reasonable pay vs. industry, pension
Cons: hr influence, risk adverse
With such a large company, the area you work in can vary greatly. Certain areas are more politically charged than others, though most all are.

Most managers/leaders strive to do the right thing.

HR really runs things so strong political connections here helps greatly.

QA Tester (Former Employee), Dublin, OH – May 13, 2013
Nationwide is currently working on a multi-year effort to convert the current CIF system to the Enterprise Customer Information File (ECIF). The Enterprise Customer Information File (ECIF) will provide a consolidated view of the customer and will allow Nationwide to take advantage of enhanced selling capabilities, such as active marketing, cross-enterprise – more... business models and cross sell analysis. Additionally, ECIF will facilitate seamless service delivery across multiple products and customer touch points and differentiated customer services based upon a customer’s relationship with Nationwide. – less

Enjoyable, employers are very pleasant and encouraging
Telemarketing (Former Employee), Hartville, OH – May 8, 2013
Pros: well known insurance company.
Cons: a lot of hang ups.
At the beginning of a typical work day, when you arrived you would grab your time card fill out when you arrived and grab a packet full of numbers and start dialing. You would call explain who you were and talk to them about maybe switching with a cheaper quote. If it is so they would like to we then take down some quick information and put it in a – more... box. Then have an agent call back with more information, and getting that handled. I have learned a little more about how insurance companies work with conditions of personal items or situations for customers. I sat at my own desk, had a window but it was an open area. No cubical. The enjoyable part was that I felt very welcomed and that encouraged me to work hard. – less

Centralized Sales rep
Centralized Sales Rep (Current Employee), Beachwood, OH – May 7, 2013
Pros: excellent shift flexibility.
Cons: long hours
I would describe my day with Nationwide to be a highly stressful but exciting day. I would start by reviewing sales data from the previous day, to ensure production was going as scheduled.

Complete online web training with new agents, and agents that were recently re-appointed with Nationwide Insurance.Processing daily reports. Prospecting for new – more... agents.

Co-workers were fun and great team players.

The hardest part of the job was getting agents to understand how to overcome objectives.

The most enjoyable would be the marketing events with the agents. – less

Great entry level job but limited in growth potential
Direct Regional Sales Agent (Current Employee), Lynchburg, VA – April 23, 2013
Pros: good base salary, strong bonus structure.
Cons: no growth potential, constantly shifting business model for direct
Insurance sales through a direct inbound channel. Warm leads only. Constantly shifting directives counteracted by good pay.

Assist Policy Holders, Agents and Third Party Requests
Personal Lines Representative (Current Employee), Lynchburg, VA – April 10, 2013
Pros: overtime, good pay, good benefits, casual atmosphere
Cons: micro-management
A typical day at work would be to answer inbound calls from policy holders, agents, internal employees, business partners and third party individuals for auto and home requests/changes/issues.

We have amazing leadership who will work with you to meet and exceed goals.

What I have learned from Nationwide is to show empathy, compassion and understanding – more... of all situations.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the interaction with my co-workers. – less

Typical Office Environment
Underwriting/Field Operations (Former Employee), GA – April 3, 2013
Typical office environment that was quiet. Not a lot of social events would happen; it was a relatively small office with less than 50 employees staffed.

I did not get much leadership or direction from management. This is the reason I left to be a field underwriter which I enjoyed more. My manager gave good direction.

Account Manager (Former Employee), Kennesaw, GA – April 2, 2013
Pros: good managment training
Cons: could not keep good employees
Retention with employee's was some what not a long term. Fun place to work. I learn a lot in managing employees. We always tried to ease work load and divided between all employees. To make such work is completed before end of day.

Pros: great enviroment
Cons: bonus structure wasn't what i expected
I enjoyed working with everyone there. The management seemed to truely want you to do well, for both the companies sake and your own personal developement.
Hardest part of job was getting used to the lower pay.
