Neighborhood Services, Inc. (NSI) is one of the oldest hunger and material assistance providers in Central Ohio. Founded in 1965, its mission is to offer innovative, regional leadership in the effort to alleviate poverty and provide food, services, and material assistance to those in need. NSI is located in the north university area of Columbus, and features a choice food pantry, children’s clothing store, and other vital services.
Summary of Position Expectations
Establish and execute major goals and objectives for the organization; implement policies established by the NSI board of directors; provide leadership, direction and guidance of NSI’s activities.
Evaluate the effectiveness of all organization operations; develop and maintain organizational structure and effective personnel; coordinate major activities through staff and volunteers.
Represent NSI to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic groups, donors, and key community stake holders.
Duties and responsibilities of this position fall under three areas:
Lead the daily operation of NSI.
Develop operational plans, policies, and goals to reach strategic objectives.
Provide support to the Board of Directors by initiating approved recommendations and actions.
Ensure compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines.
Recommend to the Board any changes to policies and procedures.
Maintain an effective and cost-efficient office environment.
Determines needs of employees, taking into account budget restrictions.
Fundraising & Communications
Work with the board to expand local revenue-generating and fundraising activities.
Maintain and refine all aspects of communications to enhance fundraising.
Increase the funding base through grants and donations.
Function as a liaison for all sponsoring churches and corporate donors.
Prepare the annual budget for board approval.
Maintain control of operating expenses within budget.
Understand the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records.
Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting.
Sign all checks and administer contracts as approved.
The ideal candidate will have experience of effectively leading a non-profit organization. Other qualifications include:
A degree from a four-year college or university. An advanced degree in business administration, social work, or finance is a plus.
Proven leadership and management skills: action-oriented, adaptable and innovative.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Passion, integrity, and a positive attitude.
Understand the importance of volunteers in a non-profit organization.
Experience working with a board of directors.
Marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience.
