Sr. Scientist II, Analytical Research Department (Former Employee) –  Huntsville, ALJanuary 23, 2014
Management has allowed certain front line supervisors to create an adversarial and nearly hostile environment.
Expectations are inconsistent and change weekly if not faster.
The workers are some of the best I've ever worked with. It's a shame they're stuck there with no options for other jobs.
Pros
bagels every payday, free soda and coffee, great co-workers

Very difficult corporate environment
Executive Director, Global Product Strategy (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CADecember 7, 2012
Nektar is a small size biotech that has not yet successfully launched any products on it's own.

The corporate environment is one of passive-aggressive behaviors, that are tolerated and rewarded by senior management. Leadership is held by a select few people who have all worked together from a previous organization that has since been merged in with another large pharma.

The most difficult part of the job was trying to interact with co-workers. These people while at VP levels did not have the knowledge or adaptability to take the company to commercialization of their organic pipeline. There were battles not only between co-workers as to who should lead projects, but between the function heads. The CEO leads by intimidation, and inappropriate outbursts at meetings.
Pros
good work/life balance
Cons
mediocre to poor benefits, such as 401k match - they only match $3000. they do not match based on percentage.
