Maintenance Worker, Grass Valley, CA - April 11, 2012
We would show up to work and wait in a room, to get our assignments for the day. The managers would come in the room from their meeting and tell us what we would be doing that day. We would go out and do canal maintenance, clearing brush, stopping leaks, cleaning muck out of canals with shovels. Basically keeping the canals free of debri and sediment. Sometimes the canals were not easily accessible, so we had to use wheelbarrows to move material for quite a distance, and up and down hills. We were working outside and a lot of the canals were in the Tahoe National Forest with some of the best scenery in the world. We also installed major water lines, and performed maintenance on water treatment facilities.
