When most of us think of Memphis, we think of Elvis Presley. When doctors think of Memphis, they think of Elvis and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. As the flagship facility of Baptist Memorial Health Care, the 700-bed hospital, often simply called Baptist Memphis, offers patients the full spectrum of health care services, including cancer treatment, orthopedics, surgical services, and neurology. The campus also features the Baptist Heart Institute for cardiovascular care and research, a pediatric emergency room, a skilled nursing facility, and the Plaza Diagnostic Pavilion for outpatient health care. Baptist Memphis, established in 1979, is one of the state's highest volume hospitals.
Doctors at the hospital see more than 27,000 admissions, 54,000 emergency department visits and nearly 116,000 outpatient visits each year. In 2009 Zach Chandler was named as the hospital's new leader, succeeding Jason Little, who was promoted to VP of metro-Memphis operations for Baptist Memorial Health Care. – less
