Pros: excellent management, responsive coworkers, friday lunches sometimes
Cons: overwhelming workload in summer months, horrid commute
A typical day at work includes speaking to two dozen customers in order to begin the move process, set move dates, set and go over visual survey results, run and process half a dozen estimates in various ways based on the account and perform quality calls to manage and maintain high quality services. Client relations are via phone and email as well and include processing, sending and explaining estimates, service information and dealing with customer emergencies.
Management is WONDERFUL. They are very responsive and extremely helpful. The problem is this company does not have a set training procedure and it is very difficult to get up to speed. The system software is old and has too many bugs and glitches to count but, again, the management and team support is absolutely phenomenal. Co-workers are always willing to help and the company is undergoing a growth spurt which has created a helpful, friendly and fast-paced workplace albeit with some drama, but easy to stay away from drama.
The hardest part of the job is being able to deal with the workload assigned in the summer, especially being a new person. Often lunch is missed. Many customers use you as their personal punching bag when New World is unable to accommodate dates or do exactly what the customer is looking for. The accounts are fairly responsive and this company is more flexible in dates than other moving companies although operations and customer service are constantly butting heads when planners changes dates without informing the customer service side. There are many micromanagers as the coworkers and one must – more... deal with :my way or no way" mindsets of certain coworkers. The commute is terrible.
The most enjoyable part of this job is having a stable workplace that values energy and taking responsibility. I learned very quickly and the industry has a steep learning curve. Overall, I enjoyed being able to personally work with management and even the owners of the company on a day to basis.
