Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Nyack, NYAugust 27, 2014
Pros: great employee discount
Cons: open door policy does not exist, no respect by dm, ignored trying to move up in the company
They do not have knowledgeable DM's to take notice of valued workers its never enough, DM are not held accountable for there actions or decisions. Visual team is awesome great people to work with, if there is a such thing as a open door policy then I didn't notice, wwhen trying to move up in the company you are put on the back burner, you cannot have – more... a family life outside the if you are a part of management. – less

Rules are NOT made to be broken
Store Sales Leader (Former Employee), USAAugust 22, 2014
Pros: management salary, benefits, lots of pto
Cons: no deviation from the rules, harsh punishments, no 3 strikes and you're out
I worked for NY&C for a year and a half and enjoyed it quite well. I had an amazing group of assistant managers and employees who were always willing to help out with whatever was going on and some were quite talented with merchandising. The pay for management was good (based on experience) and there was a great bonus structure in place as well, as – more... long as your inventory numbers were good. If not, you would lose up to 75% of your bonus, which I did because the previous manager and many of her employees had been stealing money and merchandise. They would change the sales a lot and sometimes with very short notice, which would make it difficult to complete before the store opened. Sometimes markdowns and promotion changes could take all day and there was usually no extra payroll to bring in additional employees to help. Work/life balance was good and I rarely had to stay late or work more than 40 hours a week if it wasn't during the Thanksgiving-New Years time frame. One word of warning: do not ever get lax with the rules. They are very stern with the rules. If an auditor shows up and you leave your lunch box in the manager's office, you will get a point off for something as simple as that. I had to give a final written warning to one of my best associates because she unknowingly processed a credit card discount incorrectly. I made a mistake with an employee discount and as soon as loss prevention discovered it, I was let go. The only other offense I'd had in a year and a half was submitting donations for St Jude in the wrong way. I was doing it in good conscience, but because I submitted it wrong, I was written up. That, along with the discount error, got me fired. My advice is to follow the rules to a tee or they won't hesitate to get rid of you. After I was let go, they systematically let go the majority of the rest of my staff as well (one of whom was out on maternity leave after recently having a baby), many who were amazing assets to the company and the store. – less

Pros: first to see new arrivals
Cons: low pay
This job was retail. It was a fun job and a fun environment. I personally did not see this being a long term career for me. This job is for anyone that enjoys working around clothes. It was half team work and half independent work.

Sales Associate (Current Employee), Springfield, PAAugust 4, 2014
A typical day at work would be ringing up the customers and making sure they are satisfied with what they have purchased.
Management and coworkers are fun to be around. The hardest part of the job is trying to get a customer to apply for our credit card. The most enjoyable part would be redoing the floor set with the co-workers and making each customer – more... happy at the end of their purchase. – less
