Enjoyable but slow and steady
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Glen Burnie, MDMay 8, 2014
Pros: encouragement, advancement
Cons: short breaks, hours
Not really a fast pace environment however enjoyable to say the least. Hours are not readily available because of location but its a great part-time job to get extra cash. A typical day can consist of shipment at the front of the store to be a greeter to the customers. They take care of customers a lot and provide assistance and proper training overall. – more... If you are young you can feel out of place because the customers are mostly late 20's to late 40's. The most enjoyable part of the job was the environment, very friendly and flowed well. – less

Customer Service (Former Employee), Seal Beach, CAMay 3, 2014
Pros: store discounts
Cons: co-workers
Every day there would be cleaning (dusting/mopping), folding, tagging, organizing, and putting back clothes. I have learned to just take care of all responsibilities because there were lazier co-workers there and I would not like to be blamed for not getting all the work done. The hardest part of the job was the co-workers being rude with one another – more... always causing drama in the workplace. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting discounts on the clothes we sold. – less

Unstable
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Norfolk, VAApril 24, 2014
The management at this location was very unstable. There were 3 different store managers in the few months that I was there and countless amounts of different sales associates. It was very difficult to get them to work with my school schedule. I talked to them about changing to just doing floor sets and they changed my schedule to that. It was much – more... easier to do that since I always worked with the same, fun group of people. – less

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Palm Beach Gardens, FLApril 19, 2014
BY working there, I learned a lot about fashion. Management could be better but overall it was ok. I enjoyed working with some of my co-workers. The hardest part of the job was the goals the company set for us. The most enjoyable part of the job is satisfying the customers' needs.

Very modern job
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Westland, MIApril 16, 2014
Pros: discount on clothing, enjoyable enviorment
Cons: not enough hours
Working at New York And Company clothing store was a great deal of fun..

I loved interacting with customers and helping them pick outfits for a special event or find a nice piece of clothing for a low discounted price.

Working with my coworkers and management was always enjoyable. a environment filled with top of the line fashion and women from different – more... backgrounds....cant get any better than that ;)

The hardest part of my job was pacing myself with customer orders. When I first started with the check outline I was very slow compared to other coworkers but I soon learned how to become a speedy, savvy cashier to the point where everyone wanted to come to my line to get out the store quicker. – less

Very calm and responsible place
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Forest Hills, NYApril 13, 2014
Pros: one hour breaks and able to leave if not feeling good/emergency
Cons: not enough pay
My typical day at work would be coming into work and there will be always customers already coming up to me asking for help. I learned to be very patient with them and to take my time, but as well focus on other customers in the store as well. My coworkers are very outgoing and responsible as well. They work very hard and will even come in if needed – more... on a rough day. The hardest part of the job would be keeping an eye out for people who are stealing. I remember a time when someone tried stealing earrings and I came up to them asking if they would like to see a necklace/bracelet that matched the earrings they had liked. The most enjoyable part of work is whenever my boss tells me that if we get a certain amount of customers to open up a New York & Co credit card, we will get free food or gift cards to a place. – less

MSA-Manager Support Assistant (Current Employee), Bayside, NYApril 13, 2014
Pros: rewards for hard workers
Cons: inconsistent hours
a typical day would be just like any other retail store where you are mostly dealing with customers for most of the day
management are always on hand in case you have a problem or question.
theres a sense of community in the store and you tend to work closely with your coworkers
hardest part would be dealing with unsatisfaied customers but as an associate – more... you wouldnt have to deal with it alone since managers tend to be the mediators – less

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Roseville, CAApril 9, 2014
A typical day of work at New York and Company would include replenishing merchandise on display. Ringing customers on register. Helping size and style customers. And overall providing great and helpful customer service. I learned the everyday tasks of a sales associate in a retail store. Most of my co-workers were very nice and easy to get along with.

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Tinton Falls, NJApril 2, 2014
Pros: got to dress up, great attitudes
Cons: hard to find parking in the outlets
Working under this company was a pleasure. All managers, and co-workers had great attitudes even under the busiest days. I learned how to keep calm under pressure and work the micro-cash registers. Hardest part was trying to to keep up with customers mess every minute, and yet it was also enjoyable because I had something to do.
