Call Center Representative (Former Employee), New York, NYApril 30, 2014
Typical day includes answering and handling calls from New Yorkers, all day. I learned how to be more patient. Management did their jobs, and tried to answer any questions you have. Co-workers often were upset and over the job. The hardest part of the job was getting insulted and cursed at constantly. The most enjoyable part was being part of a team – more... and doing group events. – less

Program & Fiscal Manager (Former Employee), NY, NYMarch 13, 2014
In my most recent position I was the Program & Fiscal Manager in the Grants & Administration Unit (GAU) and I was responsible as part of a team for the planning, management, implementation and evaluation of contracts for budgets exceeding $3,770,000 (or $58,000 per hospital per fiscal year). The deliverables I oversaw have a program budget of $10,000 – more... per hospital and I track, process and approve documentation and payment from pre-award to close-out using Sales Force.

Each year GAU applies for three non-competitive grants totaling $27 million following the fiscal year of the City of New York. The three federal funding streams come from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

I was a Senior Budget Analyst at the NYC Office of Management and Budget. I worked
on the capital budget for the Health and Hospital Corporation as well as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Public Health Lab. My work consisted of creating a four and ten-year budget forecast totaling $300 million and an annual executive budget that would eventually be approved and introduced by the Mayor at City Hall.

I lived in Honduras and I have also worked on short-term projects in Haiti and Senegal, in addition to completing study abroad programs in Spain and Brazil. – less

Day care Eligibility Spealist (Former Employee), N.Y., NYFebruary 24, 2014
Pros: good health coverage
Cons: little time for breaks during the day or more than a short vacation
The City of New York is a good solid employer. The work is never boring. The pace is fast moving. It is satisfying to see clients' growth process as it unfolds before your very eyes! The hardest part of the job is the time frame one is forced to preform in; often with a shortage of staff. Manager have a difficult job as they must get the job done at – more... all costs. Coworkers are as stressed as you, but the children are so worth it all. I learned how to handle stress, how to find inner peace, by seeing the greater goal of the job. One has to learn to set priorities in their organization the days work. One learned to discuss methods of relieving stress and tension with co-workers, without taking away from company time. – less

Sanitation Worker (Former Employee), New York, NYAugust 16, 2013
my day at work was simple go to the route and do the best with cleaning my route and dealing with the public. I also did not have a steady partner at work it was always a different person i worked with, so i had to learn how to have a good day and have a good conversation,it was not easy dealing with different personalities, the day was never the same. – more... As far as management goes I really did not deal with them I was preety much on my own. Management was there for the problem child.. . The hardest part of the job was really when it was steamy outside and the long days in the snow storms. The most enjoyable part of the job well... it was nice to be outside all day in all kinds of weather and knowing that my job for the day was done. I know it don't sound like much but if you live in NY you really should know that its the best NYC job. I did love it and made some great friends from this. – less
