OUR NURSES ROCK DESPITE.........
rn (Former Employee), Brooklyn , NY – May 7, 2013
Pros: nursing culture
Cons: poor staffing
A typical day is one with 10-12 patient load with 1 RN and maybe a pct.We do our best to care for our patients with less than the basics. We work as a team that is the only way the nursing staff can make through the day. Management is less than supportive to the floor staff. Promotions are handed out to the most liked and popular not the most qualified – more... for the role. The hardest part of the day is feeling frustrated because I can not appropriately care for my patient under the conditions in which i work. The – less

Productive and friendly
Nurse Manager (Former Employee), 506 6th Street Brooklyn, NY 11215 – April 2, 2013
Pros: weekends and holidays off
Cons: sometimes, no breaks. when staff complains about working conditions and/or their peers.
A typical day at work is, checking staff assignments and make adjustments if necessary. This is to make the workflow for the day easy as possible and productive.

What I learned is that, one cannot please everybody. Just be fair and hope that everything will be okay.

Supportive and helpful

I work as Manager in this unit (NICU). Whenever I delegate – more... an assignment, the staff always sees to it that it is done.

The hardest part of the job is balancing the schedule.

The most enjoyable part of the job is, seeing my staff not too overworked and comfortable whenever staffing is good. – less

New York Methodist Hospital is a wonderful hospital to work in.
Registered Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (Current Employee), Brooklyn, NY – April 1, 2013
I learned a plethora of information related to my job skills while working at New York Methodist. I had a wonderful group of team players that were extremely helpful in all situations on the job. I cannot think of anything that was difficult about working at New York Methodist. I enjoyed my time at New York Methodist and would gladly work for New York – more... Methodist in any capacity. – less

New York Methodist gave me the opportunity to expand my skills as an RN; however, I decided to resign with the confidence gained from NYM to explore new opportunities.

unsafe
Staff RN (Former Employee), Brooklyn NY – January 31, 2013
extremely unsafe environment to work in, 18-24 patient to nurse ratio, no nurse to nurse communication, lack of security staff in the ER. Never given breaks nor compensated for missing them.

Great Employer
Environmental Aide (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – January 20, 2013
Friendly environment and great place to work. I learned the value of teamwork. Even as a team every individual must be strong in their role. Management was somewhat understanding in personal matters. The co-workers are amazing because of our similar goal. Really enjoyed working there.

Beautiful organization, poor staffing.
Registered Nurse (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – December 19, 2012
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: short breaks or sometimes no break
This is a beautiful organization. Poor staffing ratio. It would be great if management paid great attention to their staff as they do for the beautiful building. If this was done, this would be one of the best places to work.

Excellent site
Attending Physician (Current Employee), Brooklyn, NY – October 10, 2012
Pros: all relationships that i am able to build with my patients
Cons: phone calls at night
I am a traditional private PCP and my week includes two offices, a NH and a hospital. I work 6 out of 7 days. The hardest part is the nighttime phone calls and never getting a full nights rest as I am always on call for myself.
The best part is building a rapport with my patients and their family.

Some departments don't allow for advancement
Blood Bank (Current Employee), Brooklyn, NY – October 2, 2012
Pros: competitive hourly wage
Cons: passive aggressive manager
Cons: The department I'm in is notorious for blocking transfers and advancements. The entire staff of my department is per-diem and not offered benefits. The manager is terribly passive aggressive and has low managerial skills. Good employees suffer for the sins of employees with inferior work ethic in this particular department. Pros: Other departments – more... seem to fare better. The hourly rate is competitive, the employee discount with Sprint is 25% and there is a 10% discount for ASPCA pet medical insurance. – less

Review of Ny Methodist Hospital
House Keeper (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – October 2, 2012
Pros: that i learned a lot and i got to touch base on all grounds of the hospital.
Cons: locker rooms
- There was never a typical day unless i was assigned to that position. I did vary of jobs during the week. From working in the Emergency room, Operating room, Maternity Ward, or doing floor work.
- I learned how to use scrubber machines, i learned how to clean hospital beds, and much more.
- I say the management was fair to me.
- I had excellent co-workers, – more... they knew how to work as a team.
- When being selected to the maternity ward I say was a tough job to do, due to the fact that the rooms had to be done in a fast paced manner for the next patients.
- To be able to work with your co-workers as a team was a enjoyable part of the job because it brings out the best out of everyone. – less
