Newell Inc. is a manufacturer and full-service marketer of staple consumer products sold to high-volume purchasers, including, but not limited to, discount stores and warehouse clubs, home centers and hardware stores, and office superstores and contract stationers. The Company's business strategy is to merchandise a multi-product offering of brand name – more... consumer products, which are concentrated in product categories with relatively steady demand not dependent on changes in fashion, technology or season. The Company's offering consists of staple consumer products in three major product groups: Hardware and Home Furnishings, Office Products, and Housewares. On October 20, 1998, the Company and Rubbermaid Incorporated entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger, providing for the merger of a subsidiary of the Company into Rubbermaid, leaving Rubbermaid a wholly owned subsidiary of Newell (Proposed Merger). After the Proposed Merger, the Company will be re-named Newell Rubbermaid Inc.
