Former Employee (Former Employee), Santa Clara, CAApril 10, 2014
Pros: flexible work schedule
Cons: salary
I had a lot of responsibilities. Management did not micro-manage their team, they let them do the job they were hired for.

Good people working with awful management
Former engineer (Former Employee), IrvineFebruary 23, 2013
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: inept management
Co-workers are great, honest, hard working people. Middle managers are great. Executives are nice and approachable, but incompetent. Bad executive decision after bad decision. Benefits and compensation are below market and get worst each year. HR is a mess. Limited advancement opportunities. Used to be a secure job but now letting people go regularly – more... because of bad acquisitions. – less

Mfg Technician III-Cal Coordinator (Former Employee), Tucson, AZJanuary 8, 2013
Pros: everything
Cons: that they moved the company to thailand and uk and destroyed our lives
I've nothing bad to say about this company. Except for the fact that it changed hands 3 or 4 times they always treated me great. I became quite sick about 6 years ago and they went out of their way to help me in every way.they possibly could. I was able to advance because my bosses believed in me. They created a safe environment among the highly volatile – more... gases because we were trained so well. – less

Thin Film Deposition Technician/Optics Fabrication (Former Employee), franklin, massDecember 12, 2012
Pros: short commute to work
Cons: few opportunities for advancement
There really were no typical days at work since each day was subject to different problems.(ie;equipment downtime, material shortages, scheduling issues, etc.) .Learned vacuum coating processes, optics replication processes, light measurement techniques using various types of spectro-photometers and optical component assembly . Co-workers varied with personality. – more... Some were easy to work with and others not so much. Most difficult part of the job were the many variables that could occur during vacuum coating processes which affected the end result and the subsequent troubleshooting efforts. – less

Management was pro active in solving day to day problems

My co-workers were personable and hard working to achieve common goal

Hardest – more... part of job was accomplishing goals set by corproate headquarters

Pros: great management
Cons: repetitive employee layoffs
Senior Technical Customer Service Agent. I learned Newport's large diversity of products including Optics, Opto-Mechanical Components, Lasers, Fiber Optics Vibration Control and more for use in the research, medicine and aerospace industries. My duties included assisting customers with selection and usage of Newport products to fit their applications, – more... generated formal quotes per customer drawings, part order placements, RMA authorization/tracking and service follow up to ensure customer satisfaction.
I also assisted the purchasing Dept. using ERP/MRP-II systems that adhered to guidelines set forth by APICS and ISO 9001. Logistics Supervisor (Former Employee), Richmond, CAJune 12, 2012
Pros: excellent salary, benefits and vacation.
Cons: plant closed.
A typical day was filled with production meetings and status updates of raw material processing in CNC and Fab shop. Ensuring part movement from one process to the next was taking place in a timely manner. Working with repairs department to make sure that all repairs work order were being filled accurately. In addition to general materials support to – more... all production areas. Management was effective and knowledgeable. The hardest part of the job was tracking and updating inventory from raw stock material through all the CNC , FAB and Anodizing processes. The most enjoyable part was having a chance to work amongst some of the most technically skilled people I have ever known. – less
