NGRAIN was founded in 2000 based on the invention of a breakthrough 3D visualization technology by North Vancouver scientist Paul Halmshaw. This breakthrough enabled - for the first time - large, complex 3D graphics files to be deployed on common PCs without the need for supplementary 3D graphics acceleration hardware.
During 2001 and 2002, NGRAIN – more... conducted detailed interviews with target users to determine the most valuable application of the NGRAIN technology. NGRAIN determined that the application area of training on complex equipment would have the greatest impact, and embarked on creating a best-of-breed commercial-off-the-shelf product line for 3D training content development. Mr. Halmshaw joined forces with current NGRAIN CEO Paul Lindahl, a Vancouver-based computer industry executive, who funded the development of the first release of NGRAIN's products through local investors, including Terry Cunningham (founder of Crystal Reports). NGRAIN launched its software products in 2002, at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference in Orlando, Florida.
NGRAIN's software products are used in the Defense, Manufacturing, Aerospace and Energy markets. Using NGRAIN's interactive 3D technology, equipment operators and maintainers are able to learn, practice, and review maintenance and repair procedures through 3D equipment simulations. This enables equipment to return to operation more rapidly.
NGRAIN's customers include all branches of the United States military, the Canadian Forces, and leading manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Northrop Grumman, and CAE. The Company's customers have trained as much as 60% faster and improved maintenance turn-time by at least 30%.
Today, NGRAIN employs over 70 engineers, product specialists, 3D artists, and corporate professionals. The majority of its employees are located in the Kitsilano head office in Vancouver, British Columbia, with additional staff in sales and support offices in Calgary, Ottawa, Washington DC, Texas and California.
NGRAIN has a number of strategic partners, including Microsoft (Gold Certified Partner), Intel (Associate Software Partner), and Adobe (Premier Developer).
