Nilfisk-Advance, Inc., the world’s premier manufacturer of professional cleaning equipment, has an excellent opportunity available for an individual to join our headquarters in Plymouth, MN.

Under general supervision of the Continuation Engineering Manager or Project Engineer, the Design Engineer II provides engineering support for existing floor care product lines on site at the production facility. This person is responsible for identifying the root cause of and implementing solutions for issues including but not limited to: supplier, margin improvement, field performance, product quality, and manufacturing related. The Design Engineer II is responsible for resolving issues with a timing focus aligned to the production facility production schedule while maintaining an engineering quality focus centered on the product requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with sourcing department on projects to improve supplier quality, delivery, and cost
  • Performs drawing & technical design reviews to support supplier changes
  • Evaluates non-conformances from First Article inspections
  • Researches and identifies problems for existing products
  • Independently develops design solutions to resolve identified issues
  • Manages verification activities including prototypes, fit checks, & design analysis
  • Documents design solutions in CAD for ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) & ECOs (Engineering Change Orders)
  • Reviews & addresses Deviation Approval for non-complying production components
  • Provides onsite extension of the core R&D engineering department to the production facility
  • Clearly communicates status across the organization
  • Works with other departments to coordinate and expedite implementation of changes in production
  • Provides technical support as needed to assembly lines and technical service, and assists in troubleshooting and refinement processes

*MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: *

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering education

EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 to 8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and design for level II
  • 0 to 4 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and design for level I

KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Hands on mechanical aptitude
  • Ability & desire to work in a cross functional team environment
  • Able to interact with all functional areas and all organizational levels
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Preferred: Experience in the design, documentation, & manufacture of metal fabrication parts
  • Preferred: Experience working or interacting on the manufacturing floor
  • General knowledge of configuration and change control procedures
  • General knowledge of manufacturing and assembly operation processes

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Pro/Engineer and PDM Software (Creo Elements Pro 5.0 and Intralink 9.1 or PDM Link 10.1 preferred)
  • Proficiency in use of MS Word, Excel (Access, PowerPoint, and Project also preferred)
  • Capability to learn new software
