Strings You Along Until You Realize There's No Room for Advancement
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), CheektowagaJune 5, 2015
Pros: Somewhat Flexible Schedule, Health Care & Vacation Time for Full Time Employees, Management Experience Looks Good on Resume
Cons: Expected to Pick Up Extra Shifts Without Much Notice, No Room for Advancement, Unapproachable Senior Managers Visit Store Often, Boring, Management Has No Interest in Employee Development, Raise Given for Promotion Minimal
A typical day at work consisted of standing behind the counter for 8 hours while my manager did all the cleaning and stocking. That being said, I did gain a lot of experience as an assistant manager, but only when my manager had a day off. Management was great at running the store, but rather than teaching employees how to be better - management would do everything. Most co-workers didn't care about the store or the job much at all, which is to be expected when you're making minimum wage. The hardest part of the job was standing behind the counter for 8 hours. Extremely boring, soul crushing job. The most enjoyable part of the job was when my manager had a day off and I was allowed to clean and stock.

Pros: close to home, flexible
Cons: hard to please
A typical day at work would be cleaning and cashing customers out. Fronting shelves to make everything look in order. Ive learned a lot of things about retail since working here. Management is good but sometimes hard to please. Co workers are a pleasure. Best part of the job is the nice people that come along that you get to talk to, worst is the people who talk down to you because you "work at a gas station"

Good company.
Store Manager (Current Employee), Depew, NYApril 24, 2012
Typical day includes customer service, paperwork and receiving. Learned multitasking skills, and a couple of different computer programs. Management teams are decent, most are down to earth. Co-workers on the other hand are.... Difficult. Hardest part of job is certain not so friendly customers, best part is the regular kind customers.
