Nom

Nom de Guerre is a New York based creative collective founded by Holly Harnsongkram, Wil Whitney, Devon Turnbull, and Isa Saalabi. The concept of the collective is to combine basic and diverse influences from art, fashion, and various New York City subcultures to create a composite culture and product.

Nom de Guerre opened October 2003, in downtown
 – more... Manhattan, and has the look of a high-end Army/Navy outpost with an emphasis on utilitarian basics. The store, invisible to the average passer-by, is situated in a multi-level subterranean space on the corner of Broadway and Bleecker streets, in a building that is well known in downtown circles as a former meeting place of the Black Panthers. The space is inspired by underground sites such as bunkers, tunnels, and archaeological digs, which give it a sense of otherworldliness.

Fall/Winter 2007 is the "Young Americans" collection. The clothes are inspired by the era just before the Vietnam War, when America was still in its own youth, and the classics - blue jeans, plaid shirts, and argyle sweaters -- were an inseparable part of the cultural identity. Films like "The Last Picture Show" and "The Deer Hunter" represent the moment when the fledgling teen culture went off to war and came back uncelebrated.

The collection is comprised of hunting jackets in heavy wool; militia rain jackets of waxed cotton; fine corduroy and cotton shirting; and heavy un-rinsed and washed denims in an array of blues and greys. The collection is also made of hues of greys and navy, accented by burgundy, and set off by army green. The t-shirt selection is also based on the dreams, discoveries, and concerns of America's youth as they leave for what has since been called, America's longest war.

The Nom de Guerre store also features collaborative clothing available made with Buzz Rickson and footwear made with Converse Jack Purcell, Russel Moccasin Company and Trickers London. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
