Spectacular Company
Cashier (Former Employee), Burnsville, MN – April 25, 2013
Pros: friendly atmosphere, power tools!
Cons: low compensation, very slow career advancement.
Northern Tool + Equipment was a wonderful company to work for. They emphasize many different values and encourage growth within the company on a personal and professional basis. They treat their employees as if they were family, and it is a great working atmosphere for those who enjoy hard work and having a little bit of fun on the job.

I am the top sales person at my job and decided to search for a new position .I was called for a phone interview by a very young girl that sounded about 10 years old.During the interview she was reading a script and had zero leadership skills let alone hiring a staff.I then realized this place is ok if you dont want make any money.GO ELSE WERE IF YOU WANT A REAL JOB.

Not a place to work if you want to be compensated.
Sales (Former Employee), N/A – April 17, 2013
Pros: once great at first....
Cons: then all down hill after!!
We gave them a poor rating because their main concerns are; GET as much as you can WITHOUT compensating its employees.

I have seen several promised positions - whereas employees are groomed, told to put in the time as the "promote position", without a salary increase - act and take on ALL the responsibilities like the assumed position, and when such – more... came available - they were all passed over.... God forbid they gave them the salary/position as promised. Instead, they go outside.

Most employees leave within 6 months. They do NOT communicate at all to their employees. They do not promote within (rarely), and that only happened once that we’ve seen, when someone split last minute.

They also do NOT care to schedule you within normal work hours. They do NOT give you a two week schedule, and it often changes without anyone advising you that it changed.

They do NOT care about work/balance whatsoever, unless it works out to the advantage of the store manager. The store manager at one of the stores - schedules employees hours based on the days HE WANTS OFF and he says' he doesn't work Sundays either now!!?

Also at one of the stores – the store manager splits (because he is salary – so no time clock), as soon as an acting “MOD” arrives or an assistance manger arrives – he leaves for the day!???!!!

**Nice to work 3/4 hour days and get paid for 8 hours. I BET CORPORATE DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS GUY!!!!

Corporate inasmuch does NOT care - because Corporate or his Regional Manger NEVER comes in or does any survey, and their HR seems to be useless and powerless.

They do NOT have any Morales or Beliefs system in place (beside on paper), and standards outside of what’s on paper is so not practiced. They certainly don't practice what they preach.

And most importantly - they have a HIGH employee turn-over rate. They can’t keep me – when they don’t pay and only take advantage of the good people they have working. They simply DO NOT pay wages to live on, most importantly and raises we have NOT seen. – less

Great place for an advancement
Sales Representative/Freight (Current Employee), Stockbridge, GA – March 19, 2013
Pros: customer service
Working at Northern Tool & Equipment is has many opportunities to learn what different products do. There are many associates who are willing to help out if you are unfamiliar with a product. The thing I enjoyed most about this job was doing freight and stocking the products on the shelves.

Progressive growing company,suffering growing pains
Assistant Manager - Operations (Current Employee), Garland, TX – January 29, 2013
Pros: growing as a whole
Cons: low salary for managers
The Company as a whole is a true progressive and growing company. However, Many of the long term Regional Sales Managers are having trouble. Dealing with the New Growth and can not see the big picture of the new direction the Company is taking. Therefore they are going to lose many good people through out this process.

Poor communication between regional – more... and Store Staff, communication becomes worst between Store Managers and Senior Staff. Poor Training provided for Managers and Support staff.

However, I must say that when this company over comes it's growing pains. It will be a strong, vibrant, company. The most enjoyable part of my day is helping to Train,Coach, Build the company as a whole, one associate at a time. – less

Not a bad place to work
Commissioned Sales (Former Employee), Grand Prairie, TX – January 13, 2013
Pros: good compensation
Cons: none i wish to talk about
For the most part, not a bad place to work. They do reward for good sales and the pay is good for the type of work. But since it is such a small place with very few employees, there's not much room for advancement.

IT CAN BE A BIT STRESSFUL DEALING WITH CERTAIN CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES.

IVE LEARNED SOME GOOD MANAGEMENT SKILLS HOW TO ACT AND HOW NOT TOO.

MANAGEMENT IS OK DEPENDS ON WHO'S MANAGEMENT.

CO WORKERS ARE WELL CO WORKERS SOME YOU CANT STAND SOME YOU CAN.

THE HARDEST PART WOULD BE JUST THE CERTAIN CUSTOMERS YOU GET.

very fast paced enviorment with its ups and downs
Phone Sales Representative (Former Employee), Pequot Lakes, MN – September 24, 2012
Pros: bonus monthly per sales added, seasonal
Cons: adding on sales
A day working here was very repetative, I answered phones all day and took incoming orders for the company. As well as added add ons to their sales. I learned a lot about computer programs and multi tasking phone calls to computer work to desk work. The management was phenomenal here and my co workers where great. The hardest part of my job here was – more... being in a cubical for 9 hours a day and not being able to talk to someone face to face. The most enjoyable part of this job was honestly my pay checks as we recieved bonus for our add on sales. – less

A place to learn something new every day.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Miami, FL – September 4, 2012
Pros: if goals and contests were met we will get free lunches and prizes.
Every day was full of challenges because of the sale goals that had to be met we were always checking what gat done the prior year to go over it. Every day you will see a new face (customer) some with great projects and some others only buying whatthey need it. The environment we tried to have was fun always trying to get the tasks on time. The most – more... enjoyable part of the job was that I will learn something new every day, either from a product, customer or the company. – less
