This hospital is going downhill at break-neck speed!
RN (Former Employee), Nursing – April 13, 2013
Pros: the patients. the salary (thank the union for that)
Cons: management attitude, workload, hard to get a break, no job security the list is endless
This used to be a quality hospital but sadly is now 3rd rate. There are many excellent nurses there who can barely keep afloat under the workload. Management's answer to every problem is to make a new form. There is "rounding" by management checking up on things and it is quite obvious that their primary concern is that the boxes are all checked on – more... forms-not that the care is actually being provided. They write up nurses on a daily basis for petty issues. Many lay-offs. Since they can't cut RN ratios, they have removed many ancillary staff. Example: nobody to answer phones in ICU. How would you like to be a family member calling about your loved one and you can't get through? The nurses are too busy with the patients and, of course the forms!
Management is downright rude and nasty to staff. They actually make up stories and say other staff members complained about somebody and you are prohibited from talking to others about it. Of course, people do talk and the lies are found out but there is ABSOLUTELY no recourse.
The sad part is the patients end up suffering. The nasty attitude of management has permeated throughout the place and oftentimes other departments are now nasty and rude to each other.
The RN union rep is useless and ineffective!! – less

Job security? There is no job security.
PCA (Former Employee), Northridge, CA – November 26, 2012
First LVN's were gone, now they want to get rid of all PCA's and double up the work for the RN's. What a mess!

Limited resources for staff support
Staff RN Outpatient Clinic (Former Employee), Northridge, CA – November 16, 2012
Pros: be able to spend time with patients in the outpatient clinic
Cons: not innovative learning environment
Typical day patient assessment, charting, triage patients, Identify emergencies and changes in patient condition, provide emergency nursing with rapid response and Codes if indicated, patients have positive feedback about staff RN's CNA's post surgery. Management seems to be spread thin and co-workers support each other. Enjoyable part of the job is – more... to have grateful patients and to give good care. Hardest part of the job is employee clicks, fostering an unproductive environment. – less

Productive hospital and trauma center, fun on your toes type of job.
Radiologic Technologist (Former Employee), Northridge, CA – November 14, 2012
Pros: occasional free dinners and treats, being able to take as much on call time as you needed to make a little extra cash.
Cons: on some of those busy nights you really don't get a chance to get off your feet at all.
I worked from 3:30 to midnight so a typical day for me would be to finish the work that the morning crew didn't get a chance to get to. In the middle of keeping up with all the ER and inpatient orders and possible surgeries, try and get a 15 min break or two and go to lunch/dinner before the ER rush started to pour in. I love the fast pace environment – more... and the fact that I can get along with anybody made me love my job so much more. I've never in the 12 years that I've been in the medical field had an issue with co- workers or patients. The most enjoyable part of the job are the traumas from the ER and the OR experiences. I love watching the surgeons at work. The hardest part of my job is the sad stories that come with the traumas. I have a great support system at home so I've gotten through some tough scenarios, thank god. – less

Interesting work setting,
Clinical Social Work Intern (Former Employee), Northridge, CA – May 3, 2012
Assessed and completed psychosocial assessments in various units of the hospital like ICU, Oncology, Med/Surg, NICU, PED-PIC. Provided services to patients and familes by linking them to adequate resources. The hardest part of the job was seen difficult case. The most enjoyable part of the job was the team work, since we have to interact with hospitals – more... interdisciplinary team. – less
