LEGAL COUNSEL
Location: Novation, Corporate Headquarters - Irving, TX

Novation is currently seeking an attorney with 3 to 10 years of law firm or large corporate departmental legal experience to provide efficient service to a broad array of internal clients in a collegial fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in contract drafting, review, editing and high level negotiation, and in one or more of the following areas: Healthcare law, procurement, litigation and/or audit. This position will report to Novation's Vice President, Assistant General Counsel.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide collaborative and advisory involvement in all aspects of the contracting process, to include drafting, editing and negotiating product supply contracts
  • Assist in the following areas: corporate training, mentorship and vendor adherence
  • Conduct training classes for Novation employees regarding legal and procedural issues
  • Perform general corporate counsel functions such as advising client departments on a variety of legal issues
  • Respond to various vendor and member issues

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar from at least one state
  • 3 to 10 years of law firm or large corporate departmental legal experience
  • Contract drafting, review, editing and negotiation experience is mandatory; construction background highly preferred
  • Litigation, audit, procurement and/or health care experience is helpful, but not mandatory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and acute attention to detail
  • Diplomacy, flexibility, and the ability to successfully interact with employees at all levels of the company, members and vendors
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, and to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and skill in managing ambiguous situations and issues
  • Proven ability to take a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives in order to achieve strategic business results
  • Enthusiasm and self-starter qualities, and ability to manage responsibilities with an appropriate sense of urgency; the ability to function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
