NovoEd is an online learning platform developed by Stanford faculty and students. NovoEd differs from other online learning platforms in its integration of social and interactive processes to enhance students engagement and learning.
Over the past year, our platform has been piloted with several courses offered as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). These courses attracted over 140,000 students from over 150 different countries. Our very first course, a three-month entrepreneurship course has created a thriving community of entrepreneurs and led to formation of several companies in US, Germany, India, Malaysia, Bolivia among others.
Do you want to build an application that is used every day by people in over 150 countries? Are you passionate about using the web to empower people from Nairobi to San Francisco? Join a team of talented Stanford students, faculty, and alumni and help us disrupt education.
As a member of NovoEd team, you will be building the core platform that powers our collaborative and interactive courses. We are looking for full-stack (with meaning-full expertise in front-end) developers to help us design and develop applications that support our collaborative and interactive courses.
We use Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Memcached, Node.js, AWS etc in our back-end. We don’t expect you to know this all, but we are looking for engineers who feel comfortable picking up a new language and create amazing applications with it. Most of our code is written in Ruby on Rails so being comfortable with Ruby scripting language is almost a prerequisite.
We offer competitive salary, benefits, and meaningful equity in one of the hottest start-ups in silicon valley to top notch people joining our small team.
Read about us in the press:
Several years working in software development and engineering, especially in a web services context. A demonstrated flexibility in languages, tools, and environments are all equally important given the breadth of responsibilities and independence you will have. Passion about education, even some teaching experience is a huge plus. Because no matter where you work in our team, you will be designing and developing apps to create a better learning/collaboration experience for our students.
We expect the usual small, fast-moving start-up qualities: Self-motivation with the ability to get things done with minimal supervision. Communicating with technical and non-technical people in a clear way. Pride in the clean, tested code that you can stand behind (or under, if it’s holding something up). Excitement about being part of a small, fast-moving team that is giving the world access to quality education.
BS in Computer Science or an engineering discipline (MS or PhD a plus). Bonus points for profiles to the usual hacker stomping grounds (GitHub, StackOverflow, etc.) so we can see how you’ve given back to the community at large.
