Consistent work
Phlebotomist (Former Employee), Jacksonville, FL – May 16, 2013
Pros: 40 hours a week
Cons: inconsistency in management
Work was always the same. I learned how to accept people from all different walks of life. Management was moody and unpredictable. My co-workers were fine. The hardest part of the job was fitting in, but the most enjoyable part was the consistency.

Productive workplace
Medical Screener (Former Employee), Las Vegas, NV – April 3, 2013
Pros: good work hours
Cons: short breaks
My typical day at work was obtaining donor's vital signs and entering their demographics into the EMR.
I learned how to set up the machine's for the donor's donation and how to disconnect a donor from the machine, exactly what plasma is and what it does for the body and for the companies we send it out to.
The management was good, they always made sure – more... everyone was happy in there position and there was opportunity for advancement if you wanted to advance.
I would have to say the hardest part about the job was just dealing with the irate donor's when some of them would find out they couldn't donate due to their HCT, protein, BP,ect. they would get angry and tell me that other screeners had passed them and then that would have to be reported to management.
The most enjoyable part was seeing the donor's that remembered me and helping them to have a good experience at the donation center. – less

fun, different and always learned something new
Medical screener (Former Employee), Wichita, KS – January 15, 2013
As a medical screener , I had a title where i had to do repetitive work intake donor nanme and number, ask 13 question regarding health and checked vital sings. I was very professional interacting face to face with a donor. I got along with all my co-workers, I am a free spirit I love making friends and getting along with everyone. There was a break – more... room where all staff got to interact with one another. Management was great they always answered all my questions when i had one. Zero favoritism, which is a plus. i learned how to take vital signs. – less

Donor Floor Technician (Former Employee), South Bend, IN – January 8, 2013
Pros: free lunches sometimes
Cons: low pay, short breaks.
A typical day at work would include overseeing 300-400 donors within an 8 hour work shift. I learned a lot about how to deal with different walks of life and spontaneous situations. My management and co-workers were absolutely great. They were like my family. The hardest part of the job wasn't very hard at all. I would say having to be replaced to stay – more... in compliance was difficult, however we did a really great job of following compliance and being patient when we needed to get off of the donor floor. The most enjoyable part of my job was seeing the regular donors and knowing them by name. I also liked when we worked as a team to close down and start up the donor floor. – less

Good place to work!
Medical Screening (Current Employee), Newport News, VA – October 21, 2012
Pros: flexible, they work with you on your availibility.
Cons: short handed at the moment.
Typical day at work would be screening donors making sure their vitals are withing limits (per SOP) capillary sticks, answering phones, customer service, dealing with donor complaints and problem solving. Cross trained employees will also moniter donors while donating and are to handle donor reactions. Customer service is a big deal. I love working – more... here, they are flexible with my hours and the employees are friendly. If you show up to work and follow SOP and the handbook (just like any other job) you will have no problems. Managment works with you, they try to understand every point of every situation and go from there. Hardest part of the job would be the late hours, sometimes you'll be there till about 9:30pm when closing. Most enjoyable part of the job would be getting to interact with all the donors, great job for experience. – less

Plasma Technician, Donor Floor Technician (Former Employee), Kalamazoo MI/see resume – September 9, 2012
Pros: working in the lab
Cons: no breaks, and sometimes no lunches because we couldnt afford to step out of the lab
waking up in the morning to be at work around 6:30am to work in -40 degree Celsius freezes for shipping and packing plasma produce. taking samples from bottles recording information into a file per donor and making a record on the computer. co-workers were productive but we had fun rock paper scissoring who would be next to go into the freezer. hardest – more... part of the job was when only me and one other co-worker were left after octapharma bought the location, so we often had 14hr work days, and over 60hrs of work weeks. most enjoyable were the people i worked with in the lab, were shut out of everyone's drama so we always had a good time and worked the hardest still. – less
