Being a Freelancer is a lot of fun, because I get to do what I enjoy, I set my own hours and work around my college/personal life. I am my own boss.

However, there are weeks in a row, where I may get 1 or 0 jobs, and it's hard to maintain a steady income that way.

Writing for love, not money
Independent Contrator (Current Employee), Seattle, WAJuly 25, 2013
Pros: meeting clients from all over the world
Cons: lousy hourly wages on average, at least for writers
If you don't mind competing for slave wages with Southeast Asians, then oDesk is for you. The average hourly rate for writers is about $5, with many being just slightly above in the McDonald's range. One has to look long and hard for jobs at or above the minimum US wage.

The plus with oDesk is that you get to work with clients from literally all over the globe, which can be both exhilarating (cultural awakenings) and exasperating (language barriers).
