Horrible Management !
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Cadillac, MIJuly 1, 2014
Pros: close to my house
Cons: everything
I was sold a lie when I started here. Having worked at Staples and RadioShack for about 3 years, I knew a thing or 2 about office supplies. I was kind of treated like a 16 year old kid, who just got thier first job, right from the start. Those stupid ear-talkines were so annoying, and God-forbid your volume was down while talking to a customer! Ugh. – more... And it was weird, because the Full-timers where like a click, that all the part-timers wanted to be apart of. The FT's knew this, and would be just weirdly mean about it. Always rubbing things in their faces, backstabbing, talking trash about them. I swear to you, that at least 3 times a week, the upper management made PTs cry. like I'm talking grown people, driven to straight up tears, all over the head games. What really confused me, is that they, the PTs, wanted to be accepted so bad! I remember when the management survey came out, they were all super nice the week prior, but I still put down the truth, but everyone else wanted to make sure they had a good score so they would be more likely to be accepted or something.

These people were seriously jerks. I was told that I should be fired for parking "at the pole, and not before the pole." I looked at him and said then fire me...then they wanted me to come in 15-20mins BEFORE shift to "get ready" BUT we could clock in until 2mins before shift. That didn't fly with me either.

The list goes on, but I was so thankful I was able to leave. I had a baby on the way, and NEEDed a job. But out of the 6 years of retail, and 8 of working, I have never had a job that I hated as much as I did OMAX – less

ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER (Former Employee), Turnersville, NJJune 29, 2014
Pros: enjoyable atmosphere with the customers
Cons: long work days and work weeks, vacations cut short
Constantly busy schedule with the company, many changes take place monthly. Must be able to sell at the drop of a hat if need be or take over someone else job tasks. Need to be on top of profit and loss and know where your losses were at by the hour. Must be able to work 55 to 60 hour work weeks without overtime compensation.

Major Retail Corp. With Emphasis on Sales and Customer Experience
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Austin, TXJune 26, 2014
Pros: good staff
Cons: rigid corporate standards
Initiate, negotiate and complete sales in all areas of office supplies and technical services. One on one interaction with customers in order to solve and or provide a total customer solution. Knowledge gained includes: sales techniques, technical support, and specific programs including Microsoft office. Management Included Store manager, assistant – more... manager, impress manager, and sales specialist. All managers had specific duties in protocol with corporate standards. Co-workers included impress associates (printing), retail associates, and sales associates. The hardest part of the job was having to resolve situations caused by management or associates to recover business relations and customer support. The most enjoyable part of the job was developing specific technical knowledge that in turn increased sales and relations between customers. – less

Overall Basic
Impress Associate (Current Employee), San Antonio, TXJune 26, 2014
Cons: no breaks, low wages, minimal pay increase, short staffed
Basic company, with little room for advancement if you're not already a member of management. Recent merger with Office Depot has driven up prices for customers and has decreased pay and benefits to associates. Company does not provide any training for it's Impress Associates. I happen to already be trained in that area. Store stays short staffed, but – more... requires a certain amount of productivity. I get absolutely no breaks. Working with different customers and staying busy in the print department is what gets me through my day. I love to network and make my customers happy. – less

E-Commerce Support Representative (Former Employee), Casper, WYJune 25, 2014
Pros: good pay, good benefits, positive and fun work environment and great structure.
Cons: the corporate office made a business decision to shut our call center down.
I was promoted quickly from general customer service to E-Commerce support. It was a very upbeat work environment who took pride in keeping our customers happy. Our supervisors and center manager were wonderful. The hardest part of the job was slow days as they tended to drag on. Most of my coworkers were very positive and we all enjoyed being there. – more... In my position I helped our customers via phone or online chat's with their corporate office supply accounts, orders, billing, returns and sales. I had learned how to research, troubleshoot problems and be a positive experience in customer service to our clients. – less

Im there to make sure that the customers – more... get all the vital information on electronics and office supplies as well. I learn so much when it comes to being a salesman like how to approach the customer and how to attach items. I can say i work with one of the best team of people i have ever with and that makes my position at Officemax even more enjoyable. I can take the things i have learn at OfficeMax and apply them to everyday life. – less

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Bee Cave, TXJune 24, 2014
A typical work day included cashiering, assisting customers on the sales floor and restocking items. I learned very useful information about office machines and accessories. Management was not very friendly and had high expectations from their employees. Co-workers were friendly and helpful. The hardest part of the job was finding the motivation to – more... perform the required tasks. The most enjoyable part of the job was conversing with customers. – less
