When you reach this Rock Bottom, you'll find a warm meal and craft brewed beers waiting. Rock Bottom Restaurants operates about 145 eateries and brew pubs across the US, including its flagship pizzeria chain Old Chicago and its Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery pub chain. Its pizzerias, found in Colorado, Minnesota, and 20 other states, feature deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza and more than 110 different brands of beer. Rock Bottom's smaller brew pub chain offers fish, pasta, and meat, plus a variety of microbrews produced on the premises. Private equity firm Centerbridge Capital Partners bought the company in 2010 and made it a subsidiary of the newly formed CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries.
Centerbridge Capital Partners acquired the Rock Bottom chain at the same time as it bought Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants and formed CraftWorks, which has almost 200 restaurants under its umbrella. Rock Bottom founder Frank Day was named chairman of CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries and Gordon Biersch's CEO Allen Corey was named president and CEO of the new company.
In addition to its flagship chains, Rock Bottom has a small number of steakhouse restaurants operating under the name ChopHouse & Brewery. It also runs the Walnut Brewery in Boulder, Colorado, and a couple of Sing Sing piano bars. – less
