Superintendent (Former Employee), IowaFebruary 24, 2015
Pros: good pay, good benifits, good safety program
Cons: micro managed, suggestions are not welcome on improving operations
Overall Oldcastle is a good company. The thing I'd have to complain about would be upper management. What I've noticed is that upper management likes to micro manage employees in the field. Now, I'm not sure if that's the case throughout the oldcastle network, but at my location that is the case.

Great benefits were given but overall the work conditions were not the best. Pessimistic coworkers, poor management.
Laborer Full Time (Former Employee), Telford, PADecember 1, 2014
Pros: great health benefits, comfortable uniforms
Cons: management, training, long hours too little pay
You would clock in anywhere between 4 and 8 in the morning with no guarantee of when you would leave. Learning the ins and outs of the company was something you had to pick up for yourself as the training and management of daily functions was minimal at best. unrealistic demands were place on how quickly specific tasks were finished and punishment was met out when you could not perform in these guidelines. however no matter how hard you tried to do the job no management would ever comment on how much the saw you trying only that you had failed. Training was minimal at best and constant risk of getting limbs cut up daily on re-bar and mesh cages.

Terrible place to work
Welder (Former Employee), Raleigh, NCNovember 5, 2014
Very unsafe environment. When you ask for something you need there is always an excuse to why you cannot have it from management. There is no ability for growth. If you are comfortable just making it by in life and doing the same thing everyday then you should work here.

Productive and Efficient place to work
Assistant Production Manager (Former Employee), Houston, TXOctober 14, 2014
Pros: safety lunches, company truck, great benefits
Cons: revolving managment
Typical day:

Manage scheduling of production of products.
Manage inventory and BOM items.
Manage and evaluate employee production and safety performance.
Manage and evaluate performance of employees
Comply with OSHA regulations
Ensure employees safety through the implementation of safety programs
Prepared weekly safety presentations to staff

I learned lean efficient operation without sacrificing safety.

Management was often revolving.

Co-workers worked as a team.

Hardest part of the job was keeping facility clean.

I enjoyed working as a team.

Production line, Furnace operator (Former Employee), Perrysburg, OhioAugust 10, 2014
Pros: health benefits, decent pay, routes to progress up
Cons: terrible co-workers, a lot of politics, hot and dangerous work
Tough job, hot and dangerous. I handled raw annealed glass on the line, I also worked the furnace a number of times. The work environment and some of the co-workers were the most intolerable aspect of the job. But, the compensation was great, monthly safety bonuses and there were a number of avenues to pursue to move through departments for better pay. Health benefits were the best aspect of the job.
