Customer Service Representative, (part-time) (Current Employee) – Fresno, CA – October 17, 2013
A typical day at Orchard Supply Hardware is a day filled with customers who are either finding something to fix their home, or people who are in the business of fixing someone's home. Not only do people come in to upkeep with their homes, but some come in just to talk to the associates who have become like friends. Throughout the day I learned a lot about the situations of everyday life, that leads us to move at a pace that rushes us through the hours that the day. It's a tough situation that just mellows its ways into our schedules without us knowing. Some people are always in a rush when they come through our stores. Of course it's totally understandable! My coworkers have become a great part of my life in and out of work. They have become my family. Everyone is very friendly and nice, and everyone has a story. The atmosphere is a great flow of energy. Without the people that work there, who has become family. I don't know if life at OSH will be the happy as I see it in my own eyes. Even though we work at OSH, our lives has brought a lot of us together as friends. We have gatherings, or lunch and enjoy the company of others. Management at the location that I work at is good. I say that the management team is always behind its staff, and seeks to provide all of use with utmost care and backbone. I can't really say there is no hard part in this job. But I will say that it is a challenge to work at OSH and for me its a great challenge that has brought so many insight into the retail world. My most enjoyable part of my job is that I get to help customers. It makes me happy tomore... help people.less
Sales Associate (Current Employee) – Tracy, CA – June 24, 2017
A typical say at Orchard involves many customer and many questions that really make you use your creativity. Having this job has taught me patience, innovation, and confidence. Management is by the rules; there is not much room for movement going of the ladder. The culture of the store is really positive and well managed. The hardest part of my job is coming up with create ways to solve customers problems. My favor part of my job is being challenged.
Nursery Associate (Former Employee) – San Jose, CA – June 20, 2017
It was a stressful environment when I was working directly with customers, but luckily they had me in pick-up and in the nursery dept. It was very stressful at times and at others there was no stress at all when the store was almost empty. Management was o.k. the hardest part of the job was with assisting customers. I enjoyed the job when i was working by myself assembling displays and loading or unloading deliveries and or loading customer vehicles.
Hostler Driver (Former Employee) – Tracy, CA – June 12, 2017
I would go back to work for orchard without hesitation. One of the best companies to work for in Ca. They treat you like family benifits are excellent and you wake up every morning wanting to goto work.
I have been in the nursery business for over 20 yrs.

Part Time Sales Associate (Current Employee) – Tigard, OR – June 1, 2017
Overall I would classify Orchards as a good place to work. As a part time employee I work in a variety of departments. I enjoy stocking as well as interacting with customers. The employees get a long well.
Cashier, Sales Associate (Former Employee) – San Jose, CA – May 24, 2017
I was thrown in as a cashier, which doesn't require much training, but when I wanted to move up to other positions, no one would train me. People are always calling out sick, so being called in on off days is a common occurrence.
the employees were great, the managment was not!!!!
ELECTRICAL\PLUMING\STOCKING (ASSOCIATE) (Former Employee) – Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 – May 21, 2017
5a.m. stocking then on sales floor rest of day their was no training. it was a good thing in knew about what I was doing from past handyman exp, hardest part of job was dealing with managers that did not seem like they have ever been managers before. when I started the manager was great, but they shipped him off to another store. in 4 years I went through 5 managers that should tell you something
Manager (Former Employee) – San Jose, CA – May 3, 2017
Over the 10 years I worked at Orchard Supply Hardware, there were three different corporate owners, five different presidents, and six different marketing chiefs. This churn created difficulty in reaching corporate goals, which, in turn, caused too much course changing. As a result, OSH has struggled to establish a coherent place in the retail space. There has been a culture of infighting between business units, typified by finger-pointing and the lack of accountability. The latest leadership has voiced the commitment to change this culture, but it is going to take a long time.
Assistant store manager (Former Employee) – Santa Clara, CA – April 28, 2017
When I first started the company culture was best I've ever seen . Focus on experienced people knowledgeable in various departments they were in i.e experienced plumbing or electrical people who could really help customers and customers would tell friend and come back cause of the great help they got. Sears brought in 3 changes in senior leadership that destroyed this culture of customer service and drove most of the great employees to leave. This horrible culture eventually led to the company going bankrupt and being bought out by Lowe's. When I first started the company made huge profit and was destroyed by a series of bad moves and the good employees and the customers were the ones who suffered
Part-Time CSR/Cashier (Former Employee) – San Jose, CA – April 24, 2017
Every employee was willing to lend a hand. Managers helped get the job done and were very patient! The harder you worked, the more hours you got. The customers were often repeat customers and you got to know each one which made it easier to assist their needs.
