When Orkin calls, bugs go belly up. A subsidiary of Rollins, Orkin and its sister companies provide insect, rodent, and termite control services to more than 1.7 million commercial and residential customers, mainly in the US but also elsewhere in the Americas, Asia, and in the Middle East. Together with its affiliates, Orkin has more than 400 branch – more... offices. The company offers its services under the Acurid, Orkin, PCO Services, and Western Pest Services brand names. Orkin was founded in 1901 by Otto Orkin, who launched his extermination empire by selling rat killer door-to-door; his efforts earned him the nickname "Orkin the Rat Catcher."
The company boosts its already-strong market presence through the continued acquisition of regional pest control companies. In 2012 and 2011, Orkin acquired several small pest control companies in states such as Florida, Nebraska, and Texas.
In 2010, Orkin boosted its presence in the South when it snatched up Redi-National Pest Eliminators, based in Texas. In 2008 it expanded into key regions with the acquisition of five pest control companies located throughout Florida, Mississippi, Ohio, New Hampshire, and Texas. The year before, the company obtained five additional pest control businesses residing in California, Texas, and New York. – less
