Level III Licensed Teaching Assistant (Former Employee), Grand Gorge, NY – October 25, 2012
Pros: long holiday breaks, great benefits
Cons: tough job with little pay
A typical day at work was unpredictable; this caused me to learn to think on my feet while working with students and following guidelines. Observation was a critical part of my responsibility, being observant allowed me to notice any changes in behaviors that could possible lead to potentially destructive or dangerous behaviors. I was often able to intervene in situations prior to them escalating by being observant and aware of each students moods and needs throughout the day. There are many things that I have learned through my experience of working with students. Everyone is an individual and sees things differently and just because their view may different it does not make it wrong. One of the hardest things about my job was sometimes the adults who would get into power struggles with the students often resulting in severe behavioral issues. The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to help others learn to cope with day to day situations in an acceptable way that was comfortable and rewarding for them. The positive days always outweighed the negative ones, every day was a new day no matter what.
