School Description: PAVE Academy Charter School (PAVE) prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the school’s core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent character. The school opened in August 2008 with approximately 88 Kindergarten and 1st grade students and will add an additional grade each year until it serves nearly 450 students in Kindergarten – 8th grade. In 2012 – 2013, PAVE serves nearly 300 students in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade.

Position Summary: PAVE Academy Charter School seeks an Intervention Specialist. S/he will serve as a small group specialist working with students who will benefit from a pull-out or push-in model in the areas of Math and Literacy. The Intervention Specialist will report directly to the Principal.


  • Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of PAVE
  • Create and sustain a positive and highly structured school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
  • Implement a research-based curriculum to meet or exceed academic standards
  • Use assessments and data to inform instructional practices
  • Assume responsibility for the academic progress of students with a high sense of urgency and ownership towards quantifiable results
  • Serve as an active member of the Response to Intervention (RtI) team
  • Work with the Learning Support Coordinator to develop and write IEPs
  • Enter and maintain progress-monitoring data in the RtI racking system; use this data, along with notes, to complete IEP progress reports
  • Utilize IEPs to adapt instruction to reach the needs of students with disabilities in an inclusion setting, push in setting, and pull out setting
  • Plan and execute lessons aligned to the common core standards
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise is welcomed and essential
  • Commit to continued professional growth and active participation in PAVE professional development
  • Complete all lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and administrative functions with care and timeliness
  • Communicate frequently with parents about interventions and progress
  • Perform duties as deemed necessary by the Learning Support Coordinator and Principal

  • Bachelor’s Degrees (required), Master’s Degree (preferred)
  • Experience teaching in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
  • New York State Teaching Certificate or Equivalent


Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Substantial merit bonuses will be awarded each year based on student academic performance and other metrics established by the Principal and Executive Director. In addition to financial compensation, all PAVE teachers are equipped with a laptop computer, email, necessary instructional supplies, and extensive professional development.
