Social Services Manager (Current Employee) – Orange Park, FL – November 17, 2017
Pace Center for Girls creates an environment that is centered around caring for the emotional well being of others while encouraging self care. The culture is family and team oriented that works with community partners through a school center environment to assist with meeting the needs of girls as they face life challenges.
Intake Coordinator and Program Assistant (Former Employee) – Fort Lauderdale, FL – September 18, 2017
Responsible for assisting the Program Director and ensuring all students needs were met in a highly paced environment. Responsible for keeping enrollment up at all times. Meeting with parents and students to see if the center was the appropriate placement for each student. Working with all counselors and teachers to ensure successful outcomes for the at risk youth at PACE.
Social Service Intern (Former Employee) – Tallahassee, FL – September 6, 2017
I was an intern at PACE in Leon county. I built many connections with the girls and some staff members. It was fast paced and the team truly works together to benefit the students. Management, however, was not the best. At times, the academic side of management was a bit much. The program management was fantastic.
I loved working with the girls, but the job was stressful
Program Assistant (Former Employee) – Wilton Manors, FL – August 16, 2017
Depending on your role their is a lot going on at once. Days often felt like hurricanes, but the girls made it worth it. I absolutely loved the training they had though! I always learned valuable information.
Time to mentor and learn
Stressful job. I responsbilty and not always a lot of grace from leadership
Counselor (Former Employee) – Tampa, FL – July 9, 2017
Pace center can be a rewarding place to work when working with the girls. Work culture takes away from all that due to incompetent leadership and overall hostile work environment. Reach Director provides limited to no support and no training. Director of Reach program poor work ethics yet employees are suppose to perform. The staff turnover rate is very high. The stress level is high and you are given no support. Those in leadership are constantly absent and unavailable yet when something goes wrong they are quick to point finger especially Director of Reach. Every staff member secretly are looking for other employment. Director is not consistent with procedures as she provides one answer and it changes weekly yet when something goes wrong quick to blame employee corporate is aware and does nothing. No support whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend working at PACE. My experience was awful.
Working with girls is rewarding
Expectations are ridiculous with no support limited training
Good model, corrupted by uncaring, power-happy "leadership"
Instructor (Former Employee) – West Palm Beach, FL – June 28, 2017
The model for the program is great- provide disadvantaged girls who have suffered some trauma with social and academic support. The staff is also wonderful... but the leadership is seriously lacking and creates a demoralizing and emotionally draining environment. Instructors are expected to serve as supervisors of girls majority of the time(from the time girls enter the center to the time they leave) and when it comes to time off, academic staff is held hostage for that providing coverage while others on staff seem to have an easier time getting vacation and even sick time. The salary is also not commensurate to the amount of responsibility expected in this position.
Program Assistant (Current Employee) – Pensacola, FL – June 6, 2017
I worked as a teacher aide helping at risk youth turn their life around and gain necessary life skills they need to be successful independent women. Pace Center for Girls is a nonprofit center, funded by grants from the community.
English Teacher (Current Employee) – Winter Park, FL – April 20, 2017
Working with Youth is always rewarding. However, there is a lot of conflict between staff. Feeling of being unappreciated by management. Long meetings twice a week. Very little time off. High turnover rate of staff and students.
Counselor (Former Employee) – Bradenton, FL – March 21, 2017
Working at PACE started as a wonderful experience but ended poorly due to inappropriate relationships between staff and upper management. The girls were challenging but I enjoyed seeing their progress and felt it was a great second chance for students,
PACE makes a huge difference in the lives of young ladies. The staff are exceptionally dedicated to their work and very supportive of each other. They focus on strengths and help build up weaknesses. The job can be stressful. Young ladies can sometimes be disrespectful and volitile while they are learning to improve themselves. But it is also very fulfilling to see the difference you can make in their lives.
Staff Member (Former Employee) – Orange County, FL – May 21, 2016
The PACE mission is great but not put into practice. Very poor working conditions, no breaks, no support, staff turnover incredibly high, staff to student ratio so high it puts students and staff at risk. ED is a bully ( to staff and girls) and she is supported by HO, there is a culture of fear and no where to turn for help. Worst organisation I have ever worked for. Very sad situation for the girls and no end in sight.
management, E.D., bullying, long hours, poor pay, no breaks
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) – Volusia County, FL – May 16, 2016
Do not work at the one in Volusia I do not like the job and I have no more to say about the company except the staff is nasty especially the executive director and program director and the company is not fully invested in helping girls because they let the girls do whatever they want thats not preparing them for the real world,
Teacher (Former Employee) – Pace, FL – May 5, 2016
Lack of structure and basic discipline impacts the educational outcome for girls, and makes the working environment unnecessarily stressful, and unsafe. Take note of the job turnover - not with the upper management- but with those actually working with students, the counsellors, teachers, office staff.Notice how long it takes to re-place those who have resigned. Watch for the excuses, because they will be there. Be sure you are clear about holidays, vacation, above all... ask questions. Talk to current and former employees, read other reviews. Expect to be buried in paperwork, stealing evenings and weekends. If it's in your nature to care about the quality of work you do, expect burnout.
Seeing the girls make positive changes in their lives, both personally and academically.
Unhealthy working environment- lack of structure, never working with full complement of staff, always short staffed.
PACE provides a supportive environment for both students and staff
Program Operations Manager (Current Employee) – Wilton Manors, FL – April 17, 2016
PACE has an amazing mission and philosophy which is operationalized in the use of values and principles. Both the students and staff live by this and all are committed to embracing growth and change as well as seeking excellence. To work in such a dynamic environment is exciting and empowering. The staff are genuinely caring and compassionate and this creates a supportive environment for all.
Counselor (Former Employee) – Orlando, FL – April 6, 2016
What is happening at this center is really disturbing. They cannot keep staff because of the leadership at the center, particularly the executive director. Therefore, the place is usually understaffed. The leadership takes a long time to rehire people, if they replace the position at all. Everyone is expected to perform more than one job and even step into roles they are not fully qualified to perform. Corporate knows about the situation and does nothing, at least from what the employees can tell. Most employees are constantly looking for another job and it's basically an open secret that everyone plans to leave.
The kids are wonderful, but working with them is a challenge. Staff is not supported the way they should be for the type of work that needs to be done with and for the girls. PACE is a great organization, but this location is not the best example of what a PACE center is supposed to be. I would not recommend working here unless serious changes are made.
The girls, a worthwhile organization with a great mission, time off
