With UH taking over Parma Hospital, there has been tons of advancement in ways to learn and in ways to develop new skills. We now can work with residents, other healthcare personnel, and we have the option of beoing rewarded for advancing our education and career. We have more than just local patients coming to us now as well.
Working in the ICU has helped me to grow in multiple ways as a nurse. I learned how to work well with other hospital personnel, be a true advocate for my patient, speak to patients and their loved ones regarding their plan of care and to work independently in managing a patient's goal of health.
The hardest part of the job was working short staffed. Those days, some times its not necessarily the fact that we were short on nursing staff, but the acuity of the patients was high. That helped me to learn how to focus and time manage and to deal with stress.
The most enjoable part of my job was being able to see a patient be happy and comfortable.
